Wrote about this phenomenon in my review, but the amount of allusion Coppola pulls on is the mark of a well-read man in an objectively illiterate society. If that realization makes you angry, it's not the film's fault. Get reading. Literally anything.

Even without knowing it's a nod to Shaw, it's a genuinely funny scene & tells a great deal about Cesar. I'm more amused by how angry MEGALOPOLIS has made people. It's like watching a thousand shattered Dunning–Kruger complexes furiously collected from off the theater floor.

We're ill-equipped for this film. It's not that audiences are "too stupid" for it; they're watching it in a completely foreign language they do not speak, understand or even recognize. It's literal Greek (or should I say Latin) to the modern audience. A fascinating phenomenon.
