shu says keeping things bottled up inside is a bad habit of hinako and after she doesn't reply (probably because she knows he's right) he then proceeds to do silly things to alleviate the tension and prompt her to express her feelings 🥺
shu didn't give hinako the pills bc he saw himself as the "nice guy" she had to marry (he admitted he was awful + said she looked weird as a bride), but bc he was certain he was the only one who knew how she felt and could help her reflect in order to leave the arranged marriage
shu trying so hard not to burden hinako with his feelings because they would tie back to some form of gender roles (which he assumes she doesn't want at all) that he ends up repressing them and unintentionally hurting hinako in a much worse way... the complexity of hinashu woa
the flashback where kotoyuki meets the fox for the first time directly parallels the flashback where shu meets the doll for the first time, which indicates both boys were influenced by the fox god and the tsukumogami god respectively
