Jack Macrae (FWD - $732K) is priced at 71 and looks set to smash this playing as a pure MID at the Saints🔥 He scored 103 points from 33 disposals with 19 CBA’s in the first practice match against the Blues and then topped that off with 107 points with 32 disposals and 20 CBA’s on 88% TOG against the Power 👀 In games where he has played over 70% CBA’s he averages 115 and while he won’t AVG that much, he’s got the potential to be the number 1 FWD this season and priced at 71, you can’t miss out 🫵🏼 #AFLFantasy
Ryley Sanders (MID/FWD - $656K) is priced at 64 and looks set to have a big role in the Bulldogs midfield with the injuries they currently have📈 Sanders scored 83 points on 28 disposals with 16 CBA’s in the first practice match against the Bombers and then backed this up scoring 84 points on 22 disposals with 20 CBA’s in the second practice match against the Hawks. The good thing is, he led the Bulldogs in CBA’s in both of these games which shows you that they want to get him in there and you’d think Bevo keeps him there for the start of the season. As a FWD it takes a lot of the risk away but with so many great options in our FWD lines there may be some coaches not leaning towards him. He averaged 116 in the VFL and we know the scoring power is there so it’s worth the plunge 🤿 #AFLFantasy
#AFLFantasy Community Series Notes 1st March - St Kilda vs Port Adelaide 📝
St Kilda
- Jack Macrae ($732k FWD) once again played really well in the midfield, with 32 disposals helping him to 107 points. Absolute lock to start in our forward lines.
- Jack Steele ($1.09m MID) was a bit quieter today, only getting 22 disposals and 81 points. I wouldn't read too much in to his score.
- Hugo Garcia ($421k MID/FWD) was solid enough today, but the role in the midfield was still there, being the clear no.3 mid with 71% CBA's. Scored 67 points, and being priced at 41, I think he's a great pick.
- Hugh Boxshall ($230k MID) looks like he will be there in Round 1. Had another impressive performance on his way to 66 points. At $230k, a really good M10 option.
- Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera ($1.00m DEF) struggled to really get going in this game, scoring just the 59 points. St Kilda also had him playing up around the ball and forward at stages, which I don't see happening in the season proper. Don't read too much into this score.
- Angus Hastie ($230k MID) once again had some really good moments in this game, scoring 56 points. Another $230k MID to consider.
- Harry Boyd ($230k RUC) was solid again today, but scored just the 50 points. Will be interesting to see if he is named Round 1 with Rowan Marshall.
- Liam O'Connell ($230k DEF) looks like another St Kilda rookie that could be playing in Round 1. Not going to be a big scorer, but it looks like defender rookies will be thin, so he could be a potential D8 option.
- Max Hall ($230k MID/FWD) was a bit quieter in this game, and only really noticed him kicking a goal. Scored the 35 points, but could still be a bench starting option if named Round 1 because of his MID/FWD status.
- Tobie Travaglia ($319k DEF/MID) came on mid way through the 3rd quarter, scoring the 20 points from 28% TOG. Not sure he is quite in the best 22 in Round 1 and could be the sub. Something to monitor.
Port Adelaide
- Connor Rozee ($996k MID) was fantastic and seemed like he was everywhere as the no.1 CBA attendee with 84% CBA's. He collecting 39 disposals, 7 markas and 7 tackles for 142 points.
- Jason Horne-Francis ($919k MID/FWD) continued his very strong preseason, once again having a great game with 31 disposals for 113 points. Looks like a great option to start with at F1 with the good run of fixtures early.
- Logan Evans ($714k DEF) got plenty of ball down back, collecting 25 disposals and 12 marks for 108 points.
- Jordon Sweet ($838k RUC) once again didn't set the world on fire, scoring 86 points. Just don't think he will score enough to be the value pick we want him to be.
- Kane Farrell ($804k DEF) was solid with 75 points thanks to 21 disposals and 9 marks. Seems as though it will be a mix of Port players like Evans, Farrell, Bergman, etc, picking up the slack left by Dan Houston.
- Josh Sinn ($452k DEF) was a little busier today, scoring 47 points from three quarters before being rested in the last quarter. I still wouldn't be picking him to start with.
#AFLFantasy Community Series Notes 1st March - West Coast vs North Melbourne 📝
West Coast
- Liam Baker ($805k MID/FWD) played off half back today like he has done all preseason, scoring 83 points. McGovern took pretty much all of the kick ins and Baker didn't take any.
- Jack Graham ($662k MID/FWD) was in the midfield a lot, as the no.2 mid for West Coast but only scored 65 points.
- Matt Flynn ($622k RUC) looks like he will be the no.1 ruck for West Coast to start the season, scoring 62 points. He attended 16 CBA's compared to Archer Reid and Bailey Williams who had a combined 8 CBA's (Williams only had 2).
- Jack Hutchinson ($385k FWD) played on a wing and was okay with 51 points. A few other options have presented themselves in the forward line, so not sure we can fit him in.
- Liam Duggan ($910k DEF) played mostly through the midfield today, but just scored the 49 points. He is a better scorer in defence, so he is a fade to start the season.
- Archer Reid ($230k RUC/FWD) showed some promising signs for West Coast up forward while pinch hitting in the ruck, scoring 42 points.
- Bo Allan ($295k DEF/MID) unfortunately was pretty quiet today in defence, scoring just the 13 points from 73% TOG.
- Elijah Hewett ($332k MID/FWD) didn't play today due to soreness. After he played in the B side midfield in match sim earlier in the week, the question is if he will be in the team in Round 1.
- Ryan Maric ($421k MID/FWD) and Lucca Grego ($230k MID) didn't get any minutes in today's game.
North Melbourne
- Tristan Xerri ($1.18m RUC) continued from where he left off last season. 14 tackles to go with 34 hitouts and 133 points. I certainly won't be starting the season without him in my team.
- Harry Sheezel ($1.15m DEF) had another great game, gathering a game high 36 disposals for 125 points.
- Tom Powell ($807k MID) has been talked up as having the best preseason from anyone at North Melbourne, and he showed that again today with 117 points.
- Caleb Daniel ($514k MID/FWD) has looked great off half back, and once again racked up with 26 disposals for 100 points. Just lock him into your team.
- Colby McKercher ($845k DEF) played mostly off half forward and in the midfield, scoring 79 points. He's a fantastic player, but I don't think the upside will be there in this role to start the season, so I'm fading.
- Finn O'Sullivan ($337k MID) played on the wing in the first half, then moved to half back in the second half and looked really good, scoring 79 points.
- Jacob Konstanty ($230k FWD) played as a small forward and only scored 20 points. We have other rookie options in the forward line that will score better.
- Luke Parker ($839k MID/FWD) and Jy Simpkin ($781k MID/FWD) were both rested for today's game.
- Riley Hardeman ($351k DEF) didn't get any game time in today's game, so doesn't look like being in the team in Round 1.
The Swans expect Errol Gulden to be sidelined for months, not weeks. The midfielder was last night taken to a Gold Coast hospital for scans on his left ankle. Shapes as another huge blow in a pre-season of injury carnage.
We'll explore further on Crunch Time from 11am on @1116sen
#AFLFantasy Community Series Notes 28th February - GWS vs Carlton 📝
GWS
- Lachie Ash ($794k DEF) could be a sneaky guy to keep an eye on in Opening Round. Scored 95 points and we could finally see Lachie Ash break out.
- Finn Callaghan ($789k MID) has looked great this preseason with the extra midfield time, and continued that again today with 96 points.
- Lachie Whitfield ($1.15m DEF) went through the motions and still got a fair bit of the ball, scoring 97 points even with being rested for the final half of the last quarter.
- James Leake ($230k DEF) could be back in calculations for our teams after playing a fair bit through the midfield, scoring 66 points with 61% CBA's. Looked good as well and at $230k, hopefully goes well next week so we can lock him into our teams.
- Conor Stone ($230k FWD) was solid down back and scored 51 points. I think he's a decent option for our benches.
- Stephen Coniglio ($789k MID) didn't have a big day, only scoring 40 points. With his limited preseason, I think he is a fade.
- Cody Angove ($271k MID/FWD) unlike Leake, didn't come on until later in the game, scoring 21 points. Unsure whether he will be in the team in Opening Round even though he was good last week.
Carlton
- Tom De Koning ($900k RUC) did all we wanted him to, even though he was up against Lachlan Keefe with Kieren Briggs being rested for the game. He scored 79 points from his three quarters, and looks like our R2.
- Lucas Camporeale ($230k MID) has put his name forward after an impressive showing, particularly in the first half scoring 88 points for the game. Could be a bench option if named and not the sub.
- Adam Cerra ($745k MID) was good from the three quarters that he played, scoring 80 points from 57% TOG.
- Ollie Hollands ($640k MID) was good off half back, scoring 81 points. Looks like a good starting option for our midfields with DPP in Round 6.
- Jack Silvagni ($455k FWD) was solid in defence scoring . Seemed to be as the third tall and got around the ground and not locked down in the defensive 50. Could be a sneaky F5/6 play, but I think at the moment we have other options.
- Sam Docherty ($782k MID) didn't come on until half way through the second quarter, but still didn't score too great with only 47 points. I think we fade him to start the season.
#AFLFantasy Community Series Notes 28th February - Gold Coast vs Sydney 📝
Gold Coast
- Noah Anderson ($1.07m MID) was very good for the Suns, top scoring for the game with 119 points. The new Suns captain could finally take his game to the uber premium territory this season.
- John Noble ($763k DEF) was pretty solid down back scoring 95 points. Could be a good draft pick, I'm not sure I will go there in Classic barring a big Opening Round score.
- Dan Rioli ($857k DEF) looked good in his first game for the Suns even though he has had a limited preseason, scoring 87 points from 71% TOG.
- Lachie Weller ($756k DEF) surprisingly played in the midfield in this game, scoring 77 points from just 50% TOG. One to move up your draft boards, I wouldn't risk it in Classic.
- Bailey Humphrey ($465k FWD) looks set to spend more time in the midfield this season and had some good moments for 65 points.
- Ben Jepson ($230k DEF) didn't come on until the second quarter, and only scored 29 points. Not sure he will be in the team in Opening Round.
Sydney
Matt Roberts ($780k DEF) was fantastic all night, racking up the ball with 27 touches and 11 marks for 112 points. Was rested a bit in the last quarter, but looks like he could be a very good starting pick.
- Angus Sheldrick ($448k MID) could finally get some opportunity this season, playing full time midfield tonight and scoring 94 points from 73% TOG. If given the opportunity, we know he can score, so a big watch in Opening Round.
- Corey Warner ($257k FWD) could be another forward rookie for us to consider if he is in the best 22. Scored 67 points and had some good moments.
- Ben Paton ($458k DEF/FWD) looks to have settled into the Sydney back 6, and could be there next week. Scored 55 points and could be a sneaky DEF/FWD option for us at $458k.
- Riley Bice ($230k DEF) played quite well down back, scoring 59 points. May get a game at some point during the season, but he is still behind a few others.
- Errol Gulden ($1.11m MID) unfortunately went down midway through the first quarter with an ankle injury. Did not look good, potentially the dreaded syndesmosis.
#AFLFantasy Community Series Notes 26th February - Richmond vs Collingwood 📝
Richmond
- Toby Nankervis ($1.03m RUC) was solid as he always is in the ruck, scoring 114 points.
- Jayden Short ($825k DEF) was fantastic in the first half with 73 points, but slowed down after half time to finish on 88 points. Showed enough and will be locked into a lot of teams to start the season.
- Tim Taranto ($980k MID) only played the three quarters and scored 64 points, 56 of those in the first half. Seemed like most Richmond players scores dropped off in the second half as Collingwood dominated.
- Jacob Blight ($421k DEF) was solid down back for Richmond and scored 57 points. If he was under $300k, he would be much easier to fit in.
- Luke Trainor ($280k DEF) didn't play in the first half, but came on in the second half and looked pretty good to score 48 points.
Collingwood
- Nick Daicos ($1.07m MID) looked at his brilliant best and scored 127 points, AND that was from just the three quarters. Probably made a few people put him in their teams.
- Josh Daicos ($973k MID) looks great off half back, scoring 120 points and will very much be in the mix and likely a top 6 defender.
- Harry Perryman ($759k DEF) continued in his midfield role and tackled his way to 99 points.
- Dan Houston ($964k DEF) was solid off half back and kicked a long range goal on his way to 90 points. Not being able to see him in Opening Round, his Round 3 bye, and Josh Daicos back in defence, make it hard to start him.
- Reef McInnes ($324k FWD) played in defence again and was okay fantasy wise with 51 points.
#AFLFantasy Community Series Notes 27th February - Hawthorn vs Western Bulldogs 📝
Hawthorn
- James Sicily ($896k DEF) was good today and scored 108 points, but unfortunately spent some time throughout the game forward. This is enough of a flag, particularly with Lewis and Dear injured, plus the early bye to not start him.
- Will Day ($760k MID) was good in patches and scored 70 points. I am just not sure he can average high enough to be the pick that we would want him to be.
Western Bulldogs
- Sam Davidson ($230k FWD) was fantastic today with 102 points and has put his name at the front of the forward rookie queue not just as a bench option, but as our F6.
- Tim English ($1.07m RUC) was solid in the ruck and took some really good pack marks on his way to 99 points. Could be an option at R1 if you want to go against Xerri.
- Joel Freijah ($627k DEF) took full advantage of not Bailey Dale and looked great for 96 points. Could be an option at D5 for us.
- Ryley Sanders ($656k MID/FWD) played full time mid and looked good with 84 points. With some injuries to the Dogs mids, he should see plenty of CBA action early.
- Luke Cleary ($335k DEF) could be a sneaky option in defence and scored 79 points. Big question is job security, but someone to put on the watchlist.
- Matt Kennedy ($791k MID/FWD) split his time between midfield and forward and scored 78 points. Even with the injuries, it seems like he will have a split so a pass for me.
- Josh Dolan ($250k FWD) had some good moments and scored 40 points. Don't think he will score enough to be a cash cow for us.
- Jordan Croft ($230k FWD) scored 34 points, and much like Dolan, don't think he will be a cash cow for us.
- Marcus Bontempelli ($1.10m MID) scored just the 5 points after going off with calf tightness in the first quarter. He said he will be all good, but if you had him at M1, may mean you fade to start the year with a niggle this close to the start of the season.
#AFLFantasy Community Series Notes 27th February - Brisbane vs Adelaide 📝
Brisbane
- Levi Ashcroft ($328k MID) looked great and looks like he will be there in Opening Round, and was solid throughout the game scoring 78 points.
- Will Ashcroft ($843k MID) was alright with 24 disposals, but just scoring the 66 points. Copped a knock to the head and went off for treatment but came back on.
Adelaide
- Jordan Dawson ($1.08m MID) was fantastic in the dewy conditions, filling the stat sheet for 135 points. That was including being managed in the 2nd half.
- Izak Rankine ($819k FWD) didn't have a massive game, but still scored 92 points. Had the most CBA's for the Crows, and could very well go 90+.
- Rory Laird ($1.02m MID) scored just the 76 points but it was tough conditions for a defender. Played half back again and a lock for DPP in Round 6.
- Isaac Cumming ($575k MID) played pretty much full time wing and scored 62 points. Unfortunately a fade for us.
- James Peatling ($634k MID) was good in patches but only scored 58 points. He was also 4th in line for CBA's, but down at 41.9%.
- Sid Draper ($331k MID) was great when he came on in the second half. Scored 42 points, but I do worry that he could be the sub to come on and impact the game in the second half so a big watch.
- Dan Curtin ($300k FWD) played mostly forward, occasionally rolling up the ground and scored 41 points. His job security looks good, but his scoring won't be high.
Here are my notes on Jaxon Prior after last night.
I think Prior is b22 for OR. Role was deep, but liked his endeavour to create/find space in transition. Has some fantasy value, but not sure he can match Kelly’s 61avg in 24 in early season
#AFLFantasy#SuperCoach
Dylan Shiel (MID - $769K) is priced at 75 and looks set to have a role close to what Nic Martin’s was last season 👀 You can clearly see that he doesn’t use the ball as well but they still want to get it in his hands with his run and carry💨He scored 102 with 26 disposals and 81% TOG against Geelong and scored 94 on 28 disposals last week against the Bulldogs. Even if you take 10 points off what Martin averaged last season it would be enough at his price but there’s some hesitant coaches. Yes, he used to be a midfielder but he’s had 5 seasons averaging over 90 before and we know half backs produce high ceilings. He’s got a tough start to the season with the Hawks, Crows & Power before his bye in RD 4 but we do get the chance at a look in Opening RD🔥 #AFLFantasy
A player's ability to put up a ceiling/captain score is important, but i'd argue that the predictability of such a score occurring is also worth noting as you will generally Captain those you deem to have a nice matchup.
I asked @jaiden_popowski to run the numbers on which mids had the best average against the 5 easiest matchups for inside mids (according to DFS).
I’ll coin the term ‘Bankability’ to describe a guns ability to go large when we expect it. (@lukerogo17 as a pun/phrase enjoyoor, I hope you like it and are welcome to adopt it)
