When MDA volunteer EMT Michal Luzon received a phone call that her son had been hit by a car, she rushed to the scene fearing the worst.
There, she found two familiar faces already fighting to save his life.
MDA EMT Roy Gimpowitz and paramedic Orian Lukatz quickly provided lifesaving treatment to 8-year-old Itai, stabilizing him before transporting him to the hospital with severe injuries.
Today, Itai is in rehabilitation and getting stronger every day.
At a recent reunion, Michal shared, "As far as Itai is concerned, Roy and Orian are the people who saved his life.”
This is what Magen David Adom is all about, highly trained responders showing up when every second counts, even for one of their own.
Two days later, and we're still smiling. 💙
Thank you to everyone who marched with AFMDA, waved from the sidelines, and showed your support for Magen David Adom.
What an incredible day of community, pride, and purpose.
There's nothing that breaks my heart like the story of Israeli paramedic ⚕️🩺 Amit Man on October 7th.
Amit was 22 years old and had her whole life in front of her. She was the paramedic of Kibbutz Be'eri and at 6: 30 AM as soon as Hamas rockets began firing from Gaza she rushed to the clinic to save lives.
What's the help of an armed member of the Kibbutz Amit barricaded in the clinic treating the wounded for hours and hours until eventually at 2 PM Gaza's terrorists murdered her and everyone in the clinic.
She loved singing and was very gifted, but more than anything, she lived helping others and saving lives. May her memory be a blessing 🕯️
Israel’s Lifesavers! AFMDA was proud to march down Fifth Avenue in NYC yesterday at Israel Day on Fifth, the annual Salute to Israel Parade.
More than 110 enthusiastic AFMDA supporters, led by Ambassador Gilad Erdan, MDA Global President and Israel’s former Ambassador to the UN, marched behind three MDA ambulances in a powerful show of support for Israel’s national lifesaving organization. MDA paramedic Reuven Harow joined our delegation, embodying the heroic spirit of Magen David Adom. We were also joined by 4 overseas volunteer alumni.
Special thanks to @NYPDnews for their major efforts to keep everyone safe.
On this #MDAMonday, we’re highlighting how MDA continues to show up no matter when, where, and how.
Even in the darkest moments, MDA’s paramedics, EMTs, and volunteers answer every call, bringing emergency care, compassion, and hope to those who need it most.
At 90 years old, Marilyn Hammerman made an extraordinary gift in honor of her late parents: donating two life-saving ambulances to Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency service.
Funded through her family foundation established by Abraham and Freida Hochberg, the ambulances will soon be on the roads in Israel responding to medical emergencies, transporting patients, and saving lives every single day.
“For them, helping the Jewish community was paramount,” said Hammerman’s daughter, Lorre Goldberg. “This is a continuation.”
For the Hammerman family, this donation is more than a gift, it’s a lasting legacy of compassion, generosity, and connection to Israel and the Jewish people.

Last week we hosted a powerful evening at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois.
Guests were joined by Rabbi Siegel, National AFMDA Board Member, for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and an unforgettable program featuring former hostage Maya Regev in conversation with Jacob Magid, US Bureau Chief of The Times of Israel.
Maya shared her deeply personal story of surviving the October 7 Nova Music Festival massacre and enduring captivity in Gaza, a testimony of resilience, faith, courage, and survival in the face of unimaginable darkness.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this meaningful evening!

Two MDA volunteers who work for El Al helped save the life of a 74-year-old man who collapsed and went into cardiac arrest in the duty-free area at Ben Gurion Airport while on his way to a flight to Greece.
Within moments of receiving the alert through the MDA responder app, the volunteers rushed to the scene, began CPR, and used a public defibrillator to deliver two life-saving shocks, restoring the man’s heartbeat before he was transported to Sheba Medical Center in stable condition.
Thanks to their rapid response, teamwork, and the accessibility of public AEDs, another life was saved.
We’re proud to share the 2025 Impact Report from American Friends of Magen David Adom, highlighting the lifesaving impact made possible through the support of our donors, partners, and communities.

Happy Shavuot from AFMDA!
Shavuot marks both the giving of the Torah and the celebration of the first harvest, a holiday rooted in community, compassion, and caring for one another.
Those same values are reflected every day in the work of Magen David Adom’s EMTs, paramedics, volunteers, and blood donors, who continue to answer Israel’s calls for help around the clock.
From moments of celebration to moments of emergency, MDA is there, because every life matters.
As National EMS Week comes to a close, we want to thank the EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, first responders, and volunteers who show up every single day with courage and compassion.
No matter the hour or the emergency, they answer the call.
Thank you for your dedication, your sacrifice, and the lives you save every day. 💙
The MIT community came together for an unforgettable day in support of saving lives.
Co-hosted by MIT Israel Alliance, MIT Hillel, Chabad at MIT, and the MIT-Kalaniyot program, the event celebrated the dedication of a new Magen David Adom ambulance made possible through the generosity of MIT professor and longtime supporters Yossi and Anat Sheffi.
The day also featured a community blood drive, music, kosher food, and family-friendly activities, all in support of MDA’s lifesaving mission in Israel.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this meaningful event possible.
Today, on International Human Milk Bank Awareness Day, Magen David Adom recognizes the lifesaving impact of breast milk donations for premature and medically vulnerable infants across Israel.
Established in 2018 and located within the Marcus National Blood Services Center with Israel’s Ministry of Health, The Sussman Family Foundation Human Milk Bank collects, tests, and distributes approximately 350 liters of breast milk each month to babies in need. Since October 2023, the bank has also supported infants whose mothers were injured, killed, serving in the reserves, or otherwise unable to nurse.
“Breast milk, like blood, is a human tissue with no true substitute,” says Dr. Sharon Bransburg Tzabari, Director of MDA’s National Human Milk Bank.
Happy National EMS Week to the incredible first responders who answer the call every day with courage, compassion, and dedication.
Thank you for all that you do to save lives and support our communities.💙

As mental health emergencies continue to rise across Israel amid the ongoing effects of war and trauma, Magen David Adom and Israel’s Health Ministry launched a new mental health emergency response initiative, further demonstrating MDA’s leadership in building national resilience and caring for both mind and body.
The specialized units include trained paramedics, mental health nurses, and access to psychiatric consultation, ensuring patients receive compassionate, professional care during moments of crisis.
The program follows a successful pilot that reduced unnecessary psychiatric hospitalizations and lowered the use of forced sedation and restraints, marking an important step forward in emergency mental health care.
