Access to clean water remains a significant challenge in rural Nigeria. In 2021, data indicated that about 67% of Nigerians had access to basic drinking water supply services, with rural areas lagging behind urban centers.
Lake Chad was once a vast freshwater lake, sustaining over 30 million people across Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.
Today, it has shrunk by more than 90%, reducing from 25,000 sq km in the 1960s to less than 1,500 sq km.

Did you know that Northern Nigeria endures some of the longest dry seasons in West Africa, often lasting from October to May? During this period, rivers dry up, and the little available surface water becomes highly contaminated or inaccessible.
Nigeria bears the highest global malaria burden, accounting for 27% of global cases. Kano State alone contributed approximately 9% of Nigeria's 68 million cases in 2021. Children under five are particularly vulnerable, with 80% of malaria deaths occurring in this age group.
Years of conflict in Northeast Nigeria have left Dikwa and surrounding LGAs (Local Government Areas) in crisis. According to the UN OCHA, over 2.2 million people remain displaced in the region, many from communities like Dikwa.
