Private investiment ??? The money came from FGC (Credit Guarantee Fund)!!! This means every brazilian who is part of the financial system paid for the "movie".
@afonsobcj@TheEconomist@elonmusk This is fake news. @FlavioBolsonaro only mediated a private investment from Master Bank to produce Dark Horse movie. He's not camparable to the other suspects. It was only bad business, exactly the same money route that Rede Globo did.
Update in Brazilian "democracy":
The presidential election is 5 weeks away. One candidate -- the 40-year-old libertarian-ish @RenanSantosMBL -- has little chance to win, but has created some enthusiasm among young people and those online.
He's been highly critical of a Supreme Court judge enmeshed in a corruption scandal, so today that judge just casually issued a decree barring him from continuing his campaign, claiming that he found "irregular" social media activity.
We've seen this more and more in "democracies": anti-establishment candidates who get any popularity just get banned (tried it with Marine LePen, reverse the Romanian election, and, of course, one of the main strategies of Dems in 2024 was to have Trump banned from all ballots). #Democracy
The Economist profiled him but then had to add a note saying his campaign was just banned:
@TheEconomist@elonmusk Brazil’s Supreme Court is trying to ban the only major right-wing candidate who isn’t implicated in the R$57 BILLION Bank Master scandal — a case involving Alexandre de Moraes, Dias Toffoli, Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro.
What do you think about what’s happening in Brazil?
For all his bragging, Renan Santos is no charlatan. The 42-year-old is running to become Brazil’s next president on a wonkish platform that sketches out a bold vision for the country https://t.co/zpUl6H7bOM
