When I reflect on how great a salvation I’ve been given, it does not lead me to think that it is I who is worthy, but it is because I know what He pulled me out of, that I know it is for His glory. Who am I, oh God? May it always lead me to fall on my face before the only true righteous One.
For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6–8)
Your genuineness is endearing. Thank you for being real and expressing what is on your heart, even if it is not THE truth. Somehow, people have come to think the church should always be “good” and “ok”. We are all broken and in need of a savior. Part of the curse is that our sinful hearts daily whisk us away for a lie that our feelings tell us and we need to be brought back to His truth. Do not apologize brother, there but for the grace of God go I. Rest in Him and in the fellowship of His body.
When I am grieved, depressed, and dejected; when anxiety and fear and stress creeps in; when I am at the end of my rope and want to quit, I wait and trust on the Lord…
This I recall to my mind,
Therefore I have hope.
The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,
For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I have hope in Him.”
The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,
To the person who seeks Him.
It is good that he waits silently
For the salvation of the Lord (Lamentations 3:21–26)
I appreciate the comment. It certainly provides a way out if I decide to take up the secular worldview on this situation. If it were only up to her, I’d agree and never have given her a chance. But God…that’s where my story starts and what I’m praying for her. I’ve seen Him change hearts despite a person’s hardness. You say “keep praying but…” as if they may just be words released into the wind. I believe they are direct lines to the One who has the ability to transform hearts. And perhaps He does not do that here. Does that mean you were right? Not exactly. It means He did not ordain that she would. Does that mean I should not have tried? I do not believe so. There is a lot of secularism that has crept into the church. It sounds good but it undermines what the bible tells us. Our example left the 99 for the 1 and ministered to the least of these.
The last couple days with KC have been trying. I see so much of myself in her from my own struggles with addiction. The lying, the manipulation. I see through it and have been able to call it out. I have 5 kids and a wife I need to protect and they come first for sure. They aren’t in any danger though and I realize I’m just inconvenienced right now. I keep telling myself this is what I needed. Please y’all, keep praying for her and for me, that God would soften both our hearts.
Thank you all for the prayers. It seems God answered them by sending someone, we’ll call her KC, who is in need of help with the very same sin that wreaked havoc for so long in my life. I’ve mentioned KC before, that she is in need of intervention for her struggles with alcohol and drugs. Her son was just removed from her custody today, and she was kicked out of her living situation. We happen to have the space right now and the heart to help, so she came to stay with us. It appears God didn’t want me wallowing in my shame over my mistake and reminded me that we have work to do for His kingdom and His glory. I’m asking for your continued prayers, but now that I would be faithful to what’s required, and also that God would begin to work a change in her heart.
Indeed, if they neglect to let it dwell richly in their hearts daily, then they become like the man who departs from the mirror and forgets his own reflection. His word is the bread of life. It is meant to sustain us through every season. It’s is a double edge sword, piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. His word holds us accountable. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. His word is not natural to worldly man. It opposes our sin nature, and therefore if we do not meditate on it daily, we will depart from it and seek after what we believe is right in our own eyes. I pray for those who have not discovered the life that His word contains and the freedom that comes from obedience to it.
@JustInHere2021 Amen brother. Theology doesn’t have to just be for seminary students. It is the study of God. The more we know about Him, the closer it draws us to Him.
Genesis 3:15 is referred to as the protoevangelium. It comes from the Greek words protos (first) and euangelion (gospel or good news). In this verse, we see the first instance of the gospel being proclaimed. God is declaring that One would come through the seed of Eve, that this One would receive a wound through the schemes of Satan, but this would also be the very death blow to Satan. The plan was always Jesus, and Satan’s fate was already sealed before man even left the garden.
And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her seed;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise him on the heel. (Genesis 3:15)

I hate my sin!! I go to war with it daily. Some of them have brought me to the darkest pits of despair. Christ was there to pull me out though. He did a work in me that I was unable to do. I’ve felt freedom now from those very sins. Sometimes though, if I let my guard down, they remind me they are still there, crouching at the door; its desire is still for me. I got burned today by one of them. I know I’m secure in Him. I know my identity is in Him. I know I am a new creation and my sin does not define me. But here I am, licking my wound. If you are reading this, your prayers are coveted.

@mwiser24 Right on! There’s 2 albums, 30 songs in total. Heads up on the first one, some of those songs get a little heavy. Those have some pretty raw emotions, but all to the glory of God.

Indeed! 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 is my absolute favorite passage in all of scripture, because I can relate to it so much. It has brought me comfort in the midst of my own thorn. I have found freedom from the most destructive ones. The freedom isn’t necessarily that I won’t be tempted still. The freedom is that it’s not my master anymore. This one yesterday was not related to my battle with alcohol, I’m still going strong there, and all praise and glory to Him for that. This is one though where I’m still learning to lean on the sufficiency of His grace, rather than the illusions of my insufficiencies.
Thanks brother! They began as prayer journals over the years. Through some of my worst and darkest times and also through some of the most joyful. These songs started as personal acts of worship and my prayer is that it can hopefully minister to others. If anything in any of them resonates, I’d love to hear about it and talk about it more. I will accept DM’s all day if someone wants to share their own experience. Blessings to you!
Thank you. I appreciate the engagement and the prayers. In this journey, I’ve come to believe that God is not only using it to draw me closer to Him, but to also bear witness to His ability to save and sanctify wretches like me. My life is for Him, and my desire anymore is to just be an instrument of His work, whether that is directly ministering to others, or being open about my struggles. God uses all of it.
