Exciting news from @kaziranga_ ! The Great Hog Badger is doing well...

The first scientific assessment using camera-trap bycatch data has recorded over 60 Greater Hog Badgers (মাটি গাহৰি) in the park. The healthy presence of this elusive, nocturnal burrower across diverse habitats reflects the strength of Kaziranga’s ecosystems. Every species, big or small, plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity.

Major breakthrough in elephant poaching case by Sonapur Forest Range. One accused, Salvation Nongrum(43)of Meghalaya is apprehended alongwith incriminating materials linked to the wildlife offence. Investigation continues to identify & bring all involved to justice.

⚕️🩺 Strengthening human wellbeing around Pobitira WLS

A health camp at the Forest Range Office of Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary on May 30 served 110 participants, including 87 forest personnel and 23 villagers from nearby communities.

Organised jointly by the sanctuary authority, Assam Health and Family Welfare Department and Aaranyak, with support from Zoo Berlin, the camp provided medical consultations, health advice and free medicines through a dedicated team of doctors and healthcare staff.

Supporting the people who protect and live alongside wildlife is key to conservation success. 🦏

ASP Surendra Pal Singh Dabar says, "... At around 5.30 to 6 AM today, the forest team was conducting their patrol during which they tried to stop a tractor illegally filled with sand. Forest Guard Rishikesh Gujjar was crushed by the tractor... His dead body has been brought to the district hospital for postmortem... The accused have been identified and will be arrested soon..."

Visited the family of Late Dilip Konwar, who laid down his life on duty during a human–elephant conflict on 29.01.2026 near Kaliabor. AFRA President Nayan Jyoti Das handed over a framed Condolence Citation and a cheque of ₹50,000 was provided as one-time assistance.
