Just a few weeks ago, Mr. @BitiTendai, a comrade and human rights lawyer in Zimbabwe, was speaking out strongly condemning our brutal persecution by the Museveni regime following the sham Jan. 2026 election. Unfortunately, as I type this, he has joined the long list of comrades in Africa unfairly detained by their governments for seeking freedom.
Biti was arrested alongside other freedom fighters in Zimbabwe for resisting attempts to extend the presidential term there to seven years and restrict the election of the President to members of Parliament only. It is disturbing to see this script, which Ugandans are already familiar with, being deployed in Zimbabwe as well.
Biti's arrest is a cowardly attack on all citizens of Zimbabwe by a regime that cannot sustain open debate about their future without resorting to brute force. I call for his immediate, unconditional release together with the colleagues detained with him. The people of Zimbabwe deserve freedom, and leaders chosen by them. The struggle continues!
Shocking reports from Washington: Rwandan youths arrested while attempting to attack DR Congoโs First Lady, Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi ๐ณ
Even far from home, some actions linked to Rwanda are raising serious questions. Authorities confirm sheโs safe but the audacity sends a message.

A bit about what happened on that dark morning of January 16 2026. People can be heard wailing, begging for mercy, explaining, but they still shot them.. #SpotlightOnUgElection26#ButambalaMassacre
In Uganda when you support opposition and display your opinions they send military to kill, abducted silence and arrest you. We have no freedom of expression freedom of speech, no free and fair elections violations of human rights and democracy are rampant in Uganda. When you oppose the government you become an enemy of state. We need the immediate intervention of the international community. Save lives of many that canโt talk, those with no access on how their voices can be heard. So many killings are done in darkness. Please look into the matters of Uganda. @Trump@DonaldJTrumpJr@TrumpWarRoom@US@USAmbassadorGR #MuseveniMustGo #FreeUganda
NUP NL/BE Engages EU on Uganda's Human Rights Crisis ๐บ๐ฌ๐ช๐บ
Today, representatives of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Netherlands/Belgium Chapter held a crucial meeting at the European External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels.
We sat down with Ms. Petra Hojni, EU Special Representative for Human Rights (Sub-Saharan Africa), and Mr. Tibor Varadi, EU Desk Officer for Uganda, to address the deteriorating human rights situation in Uganda following the January 2026 elections.
Key highlights from the dialogue:
๐ฃ๏ธ We presented firsthand testimonies of electoral violence, arbitrary arrests, and the profiling of diaspora families.
๐ค The EU reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the implementation of the recent resolution on Uganda and following up on individual cases, including that of Bobi Wine.
โ ๏ธ We raised concerns about biased asylum assessments for Ugandans and the need for verifiable evidence to support targeted sanctions.
๐ก๏ธ We challenged the EU's consideration of military training by highlighting the colonial origins of the UPDF and NUP's vision for a people-protecting army.
The message was clear: The diaspora is watching, and the struggle for democracy in Uganda continues. We thank Ms. Hojni and Mr. Varadi for their open-door policy. Now, the work of engaging Member States and gathering evidence begins.
