It is so important to stay calm in these moments, as frantic actions can often make the situation worse. Shaking a child is dangerous and ineffective for clearing an airway. Every parent should take the time to learn the proper Heimlich maneuver. We know that children are naturally curious and at high risk for choking on small objects or food. Knowing the specific technique for their size can truly save a life.
The technique for children is similar to adults but requires adjusted force and hand placement to account for their smaller frames.
1. Assess the Situation: If the child is coughing forcefully or speaking, encourage them to keep coughing. Only intervene if they cannot breathe, cough, or speak, or if they turn blue.
2. Position Yourself: Get down to their level. Kneel behind the child so you are at the same height.
3. Find the Landmark: Wrap your arms around the child's waist. Make a fist with one hand. Place the thumb side of your fist just above the navel (belly button) but well below the breastbone.
4. The Grip: Grasp your fist with your other hand.
5. The Thrust: Perform quick, upward, and inward thrusts into the abdomen.
Note: Use less force than you would for an adult to avoid injuring the ribs or internal organs.
6. Repeat: Continue the thrusts until the object is forced out or the child becomes unresponsive.
Important Note for Infants (Under 1 year):
Never use abdominal thrusts on an infant. Instead, use a combination of 5 back blows (with the infant face down on your forearm) and 5 chest thrusts (using two fingers on the center of the chest).
7. Post-Choking Care: Even if the object is removed, the child should be seen by a doctor to ensure there is no lingering airway damage or fragments left behind.
@chaoticguitar Like in that scene in ep4 where they were gathering in kilmartin house, they showed everyone but only showing pen & colin's blur half body. That editing was so bad & unnecessary that i couldn’t enjoy that scene properly.
Someone asked Hassan Al Basri: "what is the secret of your piety?"
He replied, "I understood four things":
1. I understood my rizq cannot be taken by anyone so my heart is content.
2. I understood no one can do my actions (worship) so i started doing them myself.
3. I understood Allah is watching me, so i felt shame to do wrong.
4. I understood death is waiting for me so i started to prepare for my meeting with Allah (s.w)
