Preparations for the 6th edition of AfriSummit 2026 are underway, with stakeholders meeting to advance discussions on healthcare regulation, innovation, local manufacturing and access to quality health products across Africa. The forum is expected to bring together regulators, policymakers, manufacturers, healthcare professionals and development partners to shape the future of healthcare systems on the continent.
Representatives from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) today attended a preparatory meeting for the upcoming conference, reaffirming the Board’s commitment to strengthening healthcare regulation and improving access to quality, safe and efficacious health products across Africa.
Speaking on behalf of the Acting Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ahmed Mohamed, Dr. Paulyne Wairimu, Head of the Medical Devices Unit at PPB, emphasised the importance of collaborative platforms such as AfriSummit in fostering partnerships and promoting regulatory harmonisation across the continent.
Dr. Paulyne highlighted Kenya’s growing role as a regional hub for health products and technologies, supported by a strong healthcare ecosystem and a commitment to regulatory excellence. She also shared updates on the Board’s ongoing institutional reforms and progress towards attaining World Health Organization Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT) Maturity Level 3 status, with a formal benchmarking exercise scheduled for September 2026.
She further underscored the importance of local pharmaceutical manufacturing in strengthening health security and driving economic growth, noting that sustained engagement among industry leaders and stakeholders will help build resilient regulatory systems and accelerate Africa’s healthcare transformation agenda.
Today, we celebrate Africa, its people, progress, partnerships, and growing leadership in shaping the future of healthcare.
As AfriSummit comes to Nairobi this year, we are proud to be part of a wider conversation focused on progress & Africa-led solutions.
Happy Africa Day. 🌍
