@RobertaFresque2 It’s a portable transistor radio. These were once very common. It’s sort of a dinosaur ancestor of iPods or MP3 players. Our cellphones have absorbed their functions. Now they are all extinct.
More than anything, I hope that @SirPatStew knew how much his friends loved him and his fans adored him. Captain, you waited far too long to play that first hand. Safe home, sir.
I was telling our dog about how we were going to feed him only natural, organic, non-GMO, farm-to-table food, but I don’t think he could hear me over the slurping noise he was making drinking from the toilet bowl.
I see a lot of people expressing shock and sadness over BioWare shutting down. And I get it.
But here's the uncomfortable truth:
The BioWare that made Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR, Dragon Age: Origins and the original Mass Effect trilogy had largely ceased to exist long before yesterday's announcement.
BioWare's decline began around the time the doctors left and much like what happened at Blizzard, most of the original talent responsible for building those legendary franchises had moved on years ago.
What remained was the brand. The IP. Basically just the name on the building.
But a studio's name doesn't make great games. Insanely talented people do.
And that's the lesson our industry somehow keeps refusing to learn.
The people who built those studios, who poured their blood, sweat and tears into establishing their creative identities were the actual assets. Their experience, their taste, their leadership, their ability to recognize what made a game special in the first place was always the thing that mattered, not the brand.
You can't simply replace those people, keep the logo on the door and expect the magic to continue.
Yet, that's precisely what publishers have been doing for the past 10-20 years.
They've spent billions acquiring studios and IPs, seemingly under the assumption that the creative output would continue regardless of who was actually making the games.
And when the original talent inevitably left, the remaining teams were expected to fill shoes that were often impossibly large, without necessarily having the experience, leadership or creative vision required to do so.
And... the results speak for themselves.
I think we'll eventually look back at the COVID-era acquisition frenzy as one of the most destructive periods in the history of our industry.
Publishers were buying studios left and right, paying absurd valuations mostly just to secure IPs... and developers were often all too happy to cash out.
At Moon Studios, we got quite a bit of crap for refusing to sell when seemingly everyone else was getting acquired.
I remember telling our team back then that I'd seen this movie before.
The exact same thing happened in the 90s, when EA went on its acquisition spree.
Studios were bought, their founders and creative leaders gradually lost the freedom to make the games they believed in, the original talent became frustrated and left and eventually the studios all became a Ship of Theseus.
History doesn't repeat itself perfectly, but it sure as hell rhymes, and that's exactly why I never wanted Moon to end up in that position.
And I don't think we're even halfway through the ultimate fallout of the latest acquisition frenzy.
There's going to be a very rude awakening for quite a few publishers when they discover that the studios they acquired for billions are worth a fraction of what they paid. And that shoving ideology down peoples throats ultimately came at a cost that they didn't quite grasp.
They didn't actually buy the creative vision, the institutional knowledge or the culture responsible for making those studios successful.
They bought the names, the buildings, the IPs and whatever teams happened to be there at the time.
But those things don't matter at all.
You can buy a studio. You can buy its IP. You can even buy its entire back catalogue.
But you can't buy the magic that made those games special in the first place.
And the sooner our industry understands that, the better.
@DisneyFoodBlog Anything involving PhotoPass is not a perk. Something paid for is a service. Disney is partnering with Shutterfly to entice more people to pay for this add-on.
Not sure if this is ragebait or you just really dont understand what is going on here.
So allow me to Man-splain this to you.
We have no issue with women wearing revealing workout clothing.
In fact, god-bless you for it, without that, we would be staring at sweaty guys instead of your labia.
The issue is, you want to go to the gym with your labia hanging out, then make a TikTok video all pissed that men are looking at your labia, then demand that man be canceled.
So go to the gym, work out half naked and shut the fuck up when you get the male attention you clearly want.
Hope this helps
I was mid-hip thrust when I found out @Shanemgillis had called me a whore. Technically I found out four hours later, when I reviewed the footage of Saturday Night Live. My tripod was on the bench, my ring light was clamped to the squat rack and my boyfriend Tanner was holding the back-up phone for the side angle. Tanner films all my content. He is not allowed to look at me.
The “joke” was about how women dress at the gym. I know it was about me, because everything is. So I did what any survivor would do. I went to my car and filmed myself crying. It took 11 takes, because the lighting in a Range Rover is unforgiving, and grief is no excuse for a bad shot. In the final cut, you can see a single tear land on my sports bra right over the logo, which clicks through to an affiliate link. My caption: “I’m literally shaking.”
Then I put on the shortest shorts I own, went back inside, and filmed my ass from three angles with the caption, “Does this outfit work for you, Shane Gillis?” I wanted to send him a message that my body is not for men. To make sure Shane got the message, I tagged him. Then I tagged every man I follow. Some people say my response proved his point. These people are rapists.

@arunamiller@BaltCoDemParty@SpeakerAJones Then why has the county suffered under years of their rule? Towson is now an utter cesspool. People speed past police stations on dirt bikes like they belong. There is no improvement in sight. So thank you, @BaltCoDemParty!
@Incisive_D I have to believe that companies aren’t dumb, they’re stacking the deck. Inject so many variables into the equation and you don’t know where you went wrong. Did it flop because it’s Hyrule Warriors, a remake, a GKC, its full price for some? Who knows…
@Incisive_D These companies have lost the plot. When you're charging $500 for a video game system, the vast majority of the sales aren't for elementary school kids, we're talking high school and college. So tone it correctly.
@Incisive_D Maybe it's a culture thing, but it was a boring commercial for children. Also loved all the trans love and Palestinian flags in the comments. Who the fuck cares? We're here for Zelda, not your fucking causes...
I’m just repeating what a few other women already said out loud:
If Lindsay Clancy walks on this, every woman in a high-stakes job just got a new target on her back.
Female pilot? Cool. Now the first thing people will ask is whether she’s hormonal, postpartum, or one bad night from crashing a plane into a mountain.
Female president? You want the nuclear codes in the hands of someone who can snap and then call it “a psychosis”?
That’s the door this verdict opens. And it won’t close.
If she is not found guilty of murdering those three kids, women don’t get compassion.
We get suspicion. Forever.
Prosecute her as a murderer, or watch one “crazy bitch” torch the credibility of every woman who still has to prove she can be trusted with other people’s lives.
