SOUL trial post-hoc secondary analysis in @JAMACardiology. Oral #semaglutide improved HbA1c, BP, weight, inflammation & lipids early & sustained over 4 years in 9,650 high-risk #T2D patients on top of standard of care. Multiple CV risk factor benefits likely explain the 14% MACE reduction

Retatrutide phase 3 obesity trial results are out, and it's safe to say that this is the next generation of obesity medicine:
- 28.3% bodyweight lost on 12mg over 80 weeks (70.3 lbs)
- 30.3% at 104 weeks in higher-BMI patients (85 lbs)
- 45.3% of patients hit 30%+ weight loss
- 65.3% dropped below the obesity BMI threshold
- notable drops in blood pressure, triglycerides, cholesterol & inflammation
- no cardiac or liver signals
For those of you who are new to peptides, the reason retatrutide works better than semaglutide and tirzepatide is its mechanism.
Semaglutide hits one hormone, tirzepatide hits two, but retatrutide hits three: GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon.
Glucagon increases the amount of energy your body burns at rest so you eat less and burn more at the same time.
Retatrutide is the drug that has the potential to end the obesity pandemic.
For those saying 9-10 hours per week is a lot of exercise.
I agree.
But moderate-to-vigorous physical activity is a broad definition. It can include a range of activities from house chores to brisk walking to high-intensity intervals.
In other words, most "activity" counts.
🚨 BREAKING: The FDA just proposed keeping semaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide OFF the 503B compounding list, stating there is no “clinical need” to compound them even when patients cannot afford or access branded versions.
This is a major shift because if these drugs are not on the shortage list and not on the bulks list, the legal pathway for large scale compounding begins to disappear, which directly threatens access for millions relying on compounded GLP-1s.

4 supplements that give you the biggest bang for your buck:
• Multivitamin — 3 large RCTs show it reduces brain aging by ~2 years and reverses episodic memory aging by ~5 years in older adults
• Omega-3s — a high omega-3 index (8%+) is linked to 5 years of increased life expectancy and 90% lower risk of sudden cardiac death
• Magnesium — a cofactor for 300+ biological processes including DNA repair and energy production; 60%+ of the US population is deficient
• Vitamin D — regulates over 5% of your genome, including genes for viral defense, neurotransmitter synthesis, and longevity; correcting deficiency can reverse epigenetic age by ~2 years
Twenty-three year old Lily Aramburo was on top of the world. She'd overcome her addictions, transformed her life and given birth to a son who she loved beyond compare. She'd recently moved in with an old friend, Christen, after each shared their true feelings and they were building a life together, but in early 2007, it would all begin to fall apart.
Christen was still using, and before long, Lily fell back into the powerful grip of addiction. After several disputes, Child Services removed her son from her custody, and Lily was sent to rehab. She later failed a drug test and was ejected from the rehab center, losing her chance to win custody back.
On June 1st, 2007, Lily and Christen had two friends over to their condo. At 2am, on June 2nd, Lily is alleged to have walked out of the condo wearing only a night gown and carrying bungee cords with her. She left behind her cell phone, wallet and personal items. Christen didn't report her missing for days, and when he did, he claimed that she may be suicidal.
Investigators with the Miami-Dade police waiting a week to investigate, and when they did, they quickly dismissed Lily as a drug addict who had run off. It wouldn't be until years later that they would officially question Christen, giving him a polygraph test. They reported the results, saying that Christen passed. Years later, it would be found that he had actually failed. This was only one of many mistakes discovered years after Lily vanished, and while the investigation was remarkably flawed, there was an utter media blackout leaving Lily's story untold and widely, unknown.
The diligence and determination of Lily's mother, Lucely and Lily's best friend, Janet Forte, was all that kept her name alive. Later, when detective Ray Hoadley took on the case, a true investigation was finally conducted and a myriad of mistakes, lies and unanswered questions were uncovered. Suspicions began to turn towards those closest to Lily and the inconsistencies were challenged.
What happened to Lily Aramburo? Did she simply walk off, into the night, never to be seen again? Was she overwhelmed by addiction, the removal of her son and her unhappy relationship, and as a result chose to commit suicide? Did Lily fall victim to a violent drug dealer with a history of murder? Or, does Lily's fiance and the man she lived with, Christen Pacheco (no relation), know more than he is saying? https://t.co/E8Nph4MKwX | https://t.co/3Jig0wl4lg | https://t.co/EbKdEEweje
The grandstands sound so quiet this morning.
I remember vividly the first time I had a front-row seat. He stopped by my church, stepped into my office, and said with that unmistakable blend of warmth and audacity, “I thought it would be a shame for us to live and die in the same era and never meet each other.” He was uniquely gifted. Steadfast in conviction. A bridge builder when others were creating barricades. He expanded access and opportunity for countless Americans long told to “wait their turn”. He never feared taking a position or confronting opposition. His message and methodology were controversial to some, but always courageous.
Those who witnessed him at the zenith of his roar will remember him standing in the world’s
fiercest arenas—negotiating the release of hostages when diplomacy had stalled, traveling to Syria during the Cold War when tensions were high and trust was thin. Not with governmental authority, but with the moral authority of conviction, meeting directly with President Hafez al-Assad.
A paradigm shifted when he entered one of the grandest coliseums and ran for the presidency.
Whether cheered or jeered from the stands, he was a gladiator for his community and a relentless champion for change. Today, the coliseum is quiet. The lions return to their lairs; the gladiator has laid down his armor. Others will follow the path he forged, but the echo of his voice will endure. Our arenas were different and our methods distinct, yet when our paths crossed I was humbled, a convergence of callings, united by love for our people, each willing to lend our voice when the other called.
There will not be another quite like him. Thank you, Reverend Jesse Jackson, for the battles you fought and the hope you ignited. “Keep hope alive” is now a torch in our hands. In these tempestuous times, when hope’s pulse may feel faint, we must carry it forward.
To his beloved wife, family, and close friends, you have lost more than the world can measure.
Our prayers are with you in your private memories as the world honors him publicly.
Visceral fat is a health marker I’m really interested in right now.
It’s unique because unlike subcutaneous fat, it behaves like an endocrine organ, driving inflammation, insulin resistance, and fatty liver. Long term, higher visceral/abdominal fat is associated with earlier mortality and higher cancer risk, even in people with a normal BMI. It negatively affects our short-term energy levels and mood too.
It’s also highly responsive to lifestyle. Moderate-to-vigorous aerobic exercise is the most reliable lever (even without weight loss), but lifting helps. Being in a calorie deficit is key to losing visceral fat. Diet quality (less ultra-processed/refined carbs) and sleep/stress are also incredibly important for not gaining visceral fat. Sleep loss elevates visceral fat within weeks, even with minimal weight gain.
A reminder that a number on the scale isn’t the full picture when it comes to healthy weight management.
Army researchers assess the evidence on what makes you stronger, and speculate about new approaches that might work even better.
