I disagree, I believe the recent changes are driven by upcoming legislation and valve wanting to stay ahead of that.
They realise that its better to develop the system ahead of time, rather than when, say, EU knocks on their door to force a potentially rushed system.
That being said profits are definetly being considered as a very high priority (after legal compliance and protection).
I just cannot see a world where they would intentionally risk the insanely profitable case and capsule system, for no reason other than a slim chance at increasing earnings.
New steam ui is really promising and overall good for the market imo.
Just 2 months ago valve doubled down on trading by out right "refusing to remove it", considering transferability a right.
Steam is also not allowed to raise the cap above $2000 or add cash our for legal reasons.
Yet somehow we still got people dooming thinking its the end of skins ๐
