Congratulations to our 5th cohort investee @Afya_lead and Paschal Kija for making MIT Technology Review's 2026 Innovators Under 35 list! 🎉 We're incredibly proud of you.

Paschal, is tackling one of Africa's most urgent health crises: postpartum hemorrhage, which kills some 200,000 women annually. With co-founder James Kalema, he designed the Mkanda Salama ("Safe Wrap"), a $70 belt made of elastic foam and medical-grade fabric with a hand-operated pump that stops bleeding in 73% of women within 20 minutes.

What started when a patient couldn't access a blood transfusion 60 miles away has now scaled to 85 facilities across Tanzania. Afya Lead is running clinical trials with the UN Population Fund and Tanzania's government health research institution.

This is innovation solving for the context where the problem is hardest. 🇹🇿
