John Byrne told the New York Times this week that the X-Men were not originally an LGBTQ allegory — and pushed back on the Stan Lee revisionism directly:
"Stan said that the X-Men were his metaphor for racism, that Xavier was Martin Luther King and Magneto was Malcolm X. And I go, no, actually, go look at the earliest issues. Xavier is F.D.R. and Magneto is Hitler. He's even using Nazi trappings. But people persuaded Stan that he was doing something else, and Stan said, 'Sure, why not?'"
Does this settle any debate as to what X-Men were supposed to be?
@CurtisCarson50@SpiderManPhotog@GraceRandolph@mrjoshdance Thats a an extremely stupid take, jack kirby did much more than just draw those pictures. He was quite literally the main driving artistic decisions, with some tweaks from stan.
@DCVers0 Okay so why did he hire him? Why a first time screenwriter? Why choosing to adapt a comic book when you dont have the budget for the vfx? Theres a lot of stupid errors here.
@by_shinai I almost feel bad for fans of this game.. the expectation is so ambitious yet the developers drive to make this game come to its full potential is as minimalistic as it could be.
