"As My Royal Nemesis comes to a successful close, I find myself looking back on a journey that began nearly a year ago.
The mask I designed and personally crafted for actor Heo Nam-jun's character was an important device that concealed the psychological wounds carried by the character throughout the drama.
Long before the drama aired in 2025, I had the opportunity to read the script and carefully examine the emotions and scars of the role Heo Nam-jun would portray.
Over several months, I sculpted Heo Nam-jun's face and created numerous mask designs, fitting and refining them repeatedly until the final version was completed.
It was an extremely difficult and important process, as the mask had to embody the emotions and narrative of the character. My goal was to express the character's inner wounds and story through the mask itself.
Nearly a year has passed, and the drama has now reached its finale. It has also achieved the remarkable milestone of becoming Netflix's No. 1 non-English series, bringing another outstanding K-drama to a successful conclusion.
Back in 2016, I created the mask worn by Lee Joon-gi in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo. This project required a very different approach, but I feel proud as an artist to have once again captured a character's emotions through the art of mask-making.
My Royal Nemesis is a wonderfully crafted drama that I am reluctant to say goodbye to.
I will miss Cha Se-gye and Shin Seo-ri.
