for a hundred years every doctor knew what caused ulcers. stress, spicy food, a tense personality. the textbooks taught it and the antacid industry printed billions off it.

in 1982 two australians found a spiral bacteria living in the stomachs of ulcer patients. the experts laughed. everyone knew the stomach was pure acid, nothing alive could survive in it. their own society rejected their conference abstract. 67 abstracts were submitted, 56 were accepted. theirs landed in the bottom 11.

journals stalled, grants dried up, the lab pigs refused to get infected. so on a tuesday morning in july 1984, barry marshall, 32 years old, drank a beaker of beef extract holding about a billion of the bacteria.

within days he was vomiting. his mother told him his breath stank. an endoscopy found his stomach lining inflamed and crawling with the bug. then he wiped it out with antibiotics.

the cure was a two week course of cheap antibiotics. always had been. every indian family has an uncle who has spent twenty years on antacids for his gas. this paper is why.

in 2005 the same establishment handed him the nobel prize. the jar he drank from sits in the nobel museum in stockholm today.

certainty is the most expensive drug in science.

HDFC Bank's approach to the Infinia credit card is very scary!

The branch manager told me:-
I don't care about your deposits or relationship with HDFC Bank,
If you don't have 60L of ITR returns,
We will not give u a card

If you have 10cr of deposits with HDFC Bank,
You have 50L of ITR,
We will not give u a card

If you have Zero Deposits and 60L of ITR
We will give you an Infinia card,

I mean objectively looking at
1. Credit history
2. Deposits with the bank
is a lost thing,
The only thing that matters is ITR

So why would any big HNI customer park deposits ever in HDFC Bank?
What a great way for HDFC Bank to make HNI customers feel special!

I wonder who makes these strategies for HDFC Bank?
They have no clue how important big HNI customers are in deposits to a bank!
