Obviously not always possible, but I think speed to PoC has increased a lot, it’s easier to learn from reality rather than theory, and it’s not painful to throw away things that didn’t work?

If you miss out on trend X - it’s a huge loss, you’ll get mocked, can lose the business, etc.
Whereas with potential layoffs - they are only theoretical, thus perceived unlikely and looked at more utilitarian-style?
