We are an agrarian country. We produce around 750 million tonnes of agricultural waste every year. Most of it gets burned, and that smoke is one of the biggest reasons the air turns toxic every winter.

Biochar brings together chemistry, economics, and agricultural innovation. It can become a significant adaptation technique to this crisis.

But what is biochar, really? And why does an agrarian India need it more than anyone?
