Excited to share work from my time with the @tweeticum@Dixon_LE team! We share a new understanding of how wheat floral development is regulated under low spring temperatures, an important step towards fine tuning wheat development. Thank you to all authors!
This study https://t.co/pC0tkmVTya analyses 54 years of perennial ryegrass ear emergence data, showing its closely tied to climate change, accelerating as the climate warms. Ear emergence matters in breeding, it helps farmers time cuts & grazing to maximise grass yield & quality.
Dr Suzanne Johnston, Forage Grass Trials Manager at AFBI Loughgall at the perennial ryegrass breeding trial plots ahead of the first grazing cut of 2025.

Spot the plant scientist! @Naoisemckenna00 has been working with Irish heritage oats of all shapes and sizes! Some even taller than her! Lodging clearly wasn't a fear when this variety was made!
Today we are excited to share our @protocolsIO on how to dissect (and collect) spike meristems. We hope it can be useful!

As we release the protocols we countdown for #IWC2024Perth
🌾 5 weeks left!
An aesthetically pleasing greenhouse trial looking at the impact of fusarium on Irish heritage oats as a part of the work done by @Naoisemckenna00 on the @Mycotoxi project
This is our fourth summer with an @SeedsEco wildflower meadow and the first one with an orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii)!
It's been great watching the birds and insects use this habitat throughout the years.
Fantastic to see this published! Congratulations and thank you to all those involved, esp. Simon and Shifeng 🌾It is such a useful and interesting resource🌾☺️
1/ Pre-war wheat could hold the key to securing and improving future harvests. Led by the UK @JohnInnesCentre and China (AGIS-CAAS), scientist from across the globe have concluded a 20 year study to decipher the genomes of over 800 pre-war wheats. https://t.co/Qftre2By2k
This is intersting!

A key result was discovering two transcription factors that control spike architecture and flowering time: PDB1 delays flowering and spikelet termination, and ALOG1 blocks inflorescence branching and slows flowering. Making for some very pretty wheat inflorescences.
Really happy to have this work where we explore the role of Photoperiod-1 during inflorescence development online! A huge thank you to @sbodes12 and everyone who has contributed to the paper. @Dixon_LE @MarianPasqua79 @A_K_Alabdullah@SadiyeHayta@MarkSmedley15
Our latest paper exploring the role of Photoperiod-1 during wheat inflorescence development is now out in @CurrentBiology https://t.co/gljHcnwfDP, led by Adam Gauley @agauley🧵

It's milling time for the @MycotoxI project!
@Naoisemckenna00 is busy milling the oats from the 2023 field trials. These samples will be tested for 30+ mycotoxins at @QUBelfast@QUBbioscience
One sample down, over one hundred to go
