Why Lukumi Yorubas Are Doing So Well Abroad
Respect for those older than you is critical and helps you both at home and abroad. I travel around the world and I meet Nigerians everywhere. Almost all of them see me and excitedly call me, 'Reno'. But only a few encounter me unexpectedly and address me as Mr. Omokri.
And all of those who do, I find out after speaking with them, are of Lukumi Yoruba origin. And that if the key to their universal influence.
Any human being on Earth is more likely to bond with a stranger who meets them, knows their names, yet calls them formally by their last names with a Mister, Mrs, or Miss, than a presumptuous person who encounters them and just immediately gets familiar with a first-name basis.
If you try that with an upper-class English person, they will smile at you and immediately write you off without telling you why they did that. The Japanese are less subtle. They detest immediate familiarity.
Good manners open more doors than good looks, good books, and even good hook-ups.
That is why I admire the Lukumi Omoluabi concept of respect. It disarms almost anyone to whom it is extended and makes you want to favour the person who extends it to you.
And I can prove the above assertion.
Every single Forbes-confirmed and verified Dollar billionaire of Nigerian origin in the diaspora is of Lukumi origin. All. 100%. Including:
Bayo Ogunlesi
Tope Awotona
Wemimo Abbey, and
Kase Lawal
Any other Nigerian diasporian claiming to be a Dollar billionaire is only a pretender. Go and prove it to Forbes with your certified assets!
The only Nigerian to win a Nobel Prize is also a Lukumi, who was a diaspora person at the time of his win, in the person of Professor Wole Soyinka. At the same time, the only Pulitzer Prize winner of Nigerian origin is another diaspora, Lukumi Dele Olojede.
The Omoluabi ethos is lost on Kemi Badenoch, but even the residual effect has propelled her to the highest political position ever attained by a Black person in Britain.
We can all learn a thing or two from the Omoluabi concept. When you go abroad, use it, whether or not you are a Lukumi Yoruba. The same God that favours them at home and abroad will also favour you!

Today marks exactly 40 days since the passing of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannatul Firdaus and give his family, his associates and the nation the strength to uphold the values he lived and stood for.
