FUEL CONSUMPTION: The Problem Is Not Always the Car. Sometimes It’s the Owner.
Here are some of the reasons your car is consuming a lot of fuel👇
1. Your Engine Is Too Big
A 3.5L V6, for example, is designed to move heavy cars at high speeds on highways. But you're crawling through traffic or even bad roads at 15 km/h. It can be likened to using a heavy-duty truck to carry a crate of eggs from Ikeja to Mushin.
The smaller engines (1.6L, 1.8L) sip fuel in traffic. Bigger engines (3.0L+) guzzle it.
2. You Drive Too Fast
Hard acceleration at every red light, slamming brakes at every intersection. When you are accelerating, that's when your engine burns the most fuel. Every time you floor it, you're dumping gas in the exhaust.
Smooth driving saves fuel. Accelerate gradually.
3. Your AC is always on
The engine powers your AC compressor. When it’s turned on, it works harder. Obviously, in the heat, you want to keep it going. There is one little trick. Set the vent to recirculation. It cools faster and is less strain on the engine.
4. Your Tyres Are Soft
Low tyre pressure makes your engine work harder. Like walking in sand vs concrete. Check pressure every two weeks. Proper pressure saves 10-15% on fuel.
5. You're Always Stuck in Traffic
Traffic is the biggest fuel killer. The engine idles for hours, burning fuel while going nowhere. This one you can't fix. Yakubu Manage.
6. Your Car Needs Maintenance
Old spark plugs, dirty air filter, clogged injectors, worn oxygen sensors. If your engine is not breathing or firing properly, it will burn more fuel to compensate.
Service your car, change filters, and replace spark plugs when due. It’s cheaper than buying extra fuel every week.
Sometimes your car isn't the problem. You either drive the wrong car, you drive it wrong, or you don’t maintain it.
Fix what’s in your control.
INALEGWU.
A dirty engine is better than a dead one that is sparkling clean, which you killed by simply jet washing it.
Every weekend, people drive to roadside washing bays and ask the kanaabe to make the engine as clean as possible and watch the guy blast the engine bay with a high-pressure jet like it is a tyre. The owner feels proud. The damage is already done and it will not announce itself for almost two weeks at times.
Here is what that water actually reaches. The ECU connectors. The alternator. The crankshaft and camshaft sensors. The ignition coils sitting down in the spark plug wells. The fuse and relay box. None of these were built to take a focused jet of pressurised water. They tolerate rain and road splash. They do not tolerate a nozzle aimed straight at them.
The failure is rarely instant. That is exactly what makes it expensive. Water settles in a connector, corrodes the pins over the next few days and then the car starts throwing faults that move around. A misfire that comes and goes. A no-start that clears after fifteen minutes. A check engine light that means something different every scan. The mechanic chases sensors one by one because intermittent water damage does not point at itself. By the time it is traced to a corroded ECU connector, you have paid for diagnostics, guessed parts and possibly an ECU that runs into millions on a common Japanese car.
Now the part that matters is if you are buying.
A spotless engine bay at a bond is not proof of a well maintained car. It is a question. Either it was just jet washed, which means the electronics may already be compromised and you inherit it. Or it was degreased specifically to hide an oil leak before your test drive, so the seep that should have warned you has been wiped away. A genuinely well kept car usually has an engine bay that is dusty but dry.
You can clean it properly or do not clean it at all. When the engine is cool. Sensitive components covered. Degreaser and a soft brush. Low pressure rinse, never a jet. Or simply leave it. A film of dust never stopped an engine. A jet of water has ended thousands.
If you are inspecting a car and the engine bay looks too clean for the mileage, that is the exact moment to slow down and get a second pair of eyes on it before you pay. That part I can help with. DM me
Have you ever jet washed your engine? Tell us how it went down...
@officialABAT Thank you @officialABAT for your effective leadership in confronting this security menace frontally in collaboration with @POTUS
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
Overnight, Nigeria and the United States recorded a significant example of effective collaboration in the fight against terrorism.
Our determined Nigerian Armed Forces, working closely with the Armed Forces of the United States, conducted a daring joint operation that dealt a heavy blow to the ranks of the Islamic State.
Early assessments confirm the elimination of the wanted IS senior leader, Abu-Bilal Al-Manuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, along with several of his lieutenants, during a strike on his compound in the Lake Chad Basin
Nigeria appreciates this partnership with the United States in advancing our shared security objectives. I extend my sincere gratitude to President Trump for his leadership and unwavering support in this effort.
I commend the personnel involved on both sides for their professionalism and courage, and I look forward to more decisive strikes against all terrorist enclaves across the nation.

The same @inecnigeria that your client and @ADCNig berated for obeying the previous order of a Fed. Court of Appeal and called for the resignation of its Chair.
I am a legal practitioner. I am not a registered member of any political party in Nigeria. I am equally not an employee of any government. I owe no allegiance to anybody except the truth, justice and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I was the lead counsel to Sen David Mark at the Supreme Court in the judgment delivered by the Supreme Court yesterday.
When I checked INEC portal it was clear that INEC without prompting has restored to their portal the leadership of ADC. See INEC portal at:https://t.co/4lcXrtIXii.
For me the restoration of the names of the leadership of ADC on INEC portal as shown on INEC Portal above is the right thing to do.
The decision of the Supreme Court yesterday was clear. The appeal of Sen David Mark was allowed in part. The order of the Court of Appeal for "maintainance of status quo ante bellum" was held to have been made without jurisdiction and accordingly set aside. It was the order of the Court of Appeal that INEC said it acted upon when it removed Sen David Mark and his Exco from their portal.
INEC as a corporate entity has accorded respect to the decision of the Supreme Court without pretending that it was yet to be served formally with the judgment of the Supreme Court. That is the right thing to do in the circumstances. INEC was represented in the Supreme Court. The prompt restoration of the leadership of ADC to INEC portal is commendable. That is how it should be under the rule of law. Until we agree to be bound by the rule of law and due process and avoid taking the laws into our hands Nigeria developments will be a mirage.
INEC in this particular case exhibited rare understanding of respect for the rule of law without waiting to be served with the judgment of the Supreme Court as some institutions and other highly placed Nigerian government officials will always do.
Too many in power have no respect for court and courts orders. In most cases impunity reigns supreme in our land. Even within the legal profession courts processes and orders are disregarded for personal benefit and in abuse of power.
Today many in privileged positions abused their powers and positions against the people and the society they are meant to serve by disrespecting judgments and orders of courts. Examples are legions. The abuse of power cut across all the strata of the country. Even in the legal profession powers are being abused. The security agencies abused their powers too. Everyone appears to be law unto themselves in this country.
On this particular occasion I must commend INEC for their prompt restoration of the leadership of ADC on their portal without waiting for letters from the legal team of Sen David Mark. INEC must do what it needs to do for the good of Nigeria and democracy. INEC must be bold and courageous to attain good success in protecting and safeguarding Nigerian democracy.
@ADCNig going to the SC could have been avoided and limited time available used productively. But your party chose theatric to whip up public sentiments. Politics is not a sprint but a marathon. You are yet to tell Nigerians what you'll differently from @OfficialAPCNg
There has been a deliberate attempt in some quarters to diminish the significance of the recent Supreme Court judgement, framing it as a “pyrrhic victory” or questioning why members of the African Democratic Congress chose to celebrate.
This line of argument is not only misleading, it is dangerous. We do not need conspiracy theories to understand the environment in which we operate. It is evident that we are in a fiercely contested political space, one where opposition voices are often tested, pressured, and underestimated. Yes, we are the underdog in this moment. But we are not without experience. Within the ADC are battle-tested leaders and resilient members who have navigated difficult political terrains and who understand, clearly, what victory looks like.
Let us be clear: the struggle before us is bigger than any single court decision. The mission is to ensure that the ADC not only contests, but wins the 2027 elections, and that Nigeria does not slide into a one-party state. That mission remains fully intact.
But wars are not won in a single moment. They are built through a series of battles. Yesterday was one such battle, and it was won.
For a movement that has faced sustained pressure, that victory mattered. It was right to acknowledge it. It was necessary to celebrate it, not as a conclusion, but as a signal, that we are still in the fight, and still standing.
Does this mean the war is over? Absolutely not.
Yes, we celebrated yesterday. Today, we have returned to the trenches.
The work continues, in the courts of law, in the court of public opinion, and in the theatres of politics. And we remain committed, focused, and resolute until the ultimate objective is achieved.
Sharpen your inner vision with God's promises. Internalize them and meditate on them until they become 'flesh' in your life and situations.
