@junitheopossum Because nobody else in parliament has the stones to call it out for what it actually is and overturn it and he knows that
hell even reform wont overturn it, even though they say they will
@WallStreetMav That's rich coming from the country where people are getting whisked off the streets and thrown in prison in a different country just because they look like they might be an immigrant
somehow despite having quite a warning span, x doesn't have a proper age verification system in place or osa 2023
pornhub bloody has one that doesn't need your picture but noooo, x doesn't even get the picture shit let alone the safe optionsπ€‘
also despite this coming into force in the next few days fully ive not seen much about it at all anywhere, but plenty about the age of retirement
(probably bloody going up again and screwing us all)
This is mostly just me ranting and i know for certain ive skipped some stuff, im not perfect after all
but i leave you with this tidbit
If you do put your id online, be certain that its going to the proper company and not some scammer before you send it please, thanks 4 reading
Im not even sure they asked anyone who knows what happens on the internet if this was feasable, not like the conservative governemnt tried over and over and kept getting told "no, this isnt going to work"
yet somehow both major parties magically thought yeah, this'll work.
I have some majo issues with #OnlineSafetyAct2023
i've never seen a bill so fundamentally fail to understand how the internet actually works these days
It somehow ignores that in this day and age you can easily trick websites into thinking you are in a different country
Then theres ofcom, dear old already well streched thin ofcom, who are somehow expected to monitor every website, oh and the government expects them to be able to succesfully fine sites and companies based in other countries including those we have no treaties with
those who post it, but now, with the id checks these creepy sods are going to vanish elsewhere into the deeper and absolutely illegal sites that wont cooperate with the police, meaning this bill scuppers a lot of effort currently bing applied or coupld be applied.
as for removing csam, its a noble goal, one i stand behind willingly, but did you know that sites such as pornhub already dealt with this by complying with already existing laws, in fact a lot of pornography sites that went legitimate cooperate with law enforcement to catch
what they post online, thats a lot of information every hour, yet the government just expects companies of all sizes to be able to deal with this, it will destroy many smaller companies and ensure that most who try will inevitably fall short and fail
Then theres the compaies, not the big beefy chaps who have been around forever, no, its the startups, the ones with barely enough money, suddenly on top of trying to fund their project, they might need to hire on more staff and buy more hardware to check everyones age and
up at your door because somebody did something highly illegal while pretending to be you, suddenly your treated like a criminal for something you didnt do and of course the government wont ever care that you suffered because they demanded your id be put on most sites out there
time, more companies, more requests, the bigger the risk your information is stolen, then what?
theres quite a lot you can do with a persons info these days, but i think the most common is using it as a fake identity and of course, its all fun and games until the police turn
Oh and of course there's the security concerns, i sure as hell dont trust companies with my id at all, with the amount of data breaches and scummy companies out there its not possible to fully be sure your important info stays safe, yet we are now expected to hand it over all the
