@spaztron64@emperortoho Over here, Touhou 20 is treated like a prop for "ethical AI use," so it's a strange position since even people who say they hate gen AI praise this usage. Part of it IS the messaging, which makes up for it somehow for a bunch of people. And yeah, it's talked about beyond fans.
After having been embroiled nonstop in Japanese convos being sent my way by the algorithm constantly, what I've concluded is that it's pretty hard to dislike gen AI in the JP space. It seems way more popular over there than for Westerners, but that's just what I've seen.
@spaztron64@emperortoho So, my point is that in all the times the game is brought up, the messaging in it was ignored, so that means it just wasn't very effective. I see more English speakers talking about the message itself, if anything, which is funny. It's effective over here, I guess?
Kane Parsons, the 20-year-old director of the box office-topping film “Backrooms,” is “absolutely not” going to embrace AI, explaining that he doesn’t “see the value in, like, outsourcing” the making of art.
@RoseSilicon It's mostly around copyright and skill drain, which is important for sure, but I don't know if they have to consider the noise and water pollution or how much small towns are shouldering electric burdens just for a crumb of economic growth. Our scales are a bit different.
@RoseSilicon Yeah, so it's us who has to eat all the awful stuff that comes with the majority of centers, not them. That's why they have the luxury of treating it like a magic box of wonders, and their conversations tend to reflect it. The environmental and personal impact doesn't come up.
@RoseSilicon That's also why I hate it when they say it's just a tool (many English speakers do, too) and that ZUN is right on it, because there wasn't nearly as high a need for data centers until LLMs, and no other tool is like this with the same amount of downsides.
@RoseSilicon They don't see it, and they probably don't get to feel it as much since other countries are the ones hosting more data centers (though they do have a decent amount). Unlike here, where articles come out every month about power and water issues, I don't know if they get the same.
@RoseSilicon I agree with all that, obviously. You're talking to the wrong person if you think I trust Silicon Valley. I'm just mostly annoyed by the way you came onto me about how wrong I am when I made it really clear that I wasn't making a comparison past, "Wow, AI seems popular there."
@RoseSilicon That's fair. I don't drink or do any drugs, but sometimes I wish I could with how stressful everything is going. Still, I'm serious about seeing JP saying some crazy defenses in favor of AI genning everything, so it's definitely not just Americans, alright.
@RoseSilicon And it's not just Americans who enable those companies every day, so why be so vile about it? You don't get to lecture me after you say that stuff, that's for sure.
@RoseSilicon Dude, you are literally getting on my ass about being wrong nebulously with my opinion on what I've read and then turn around and shit on Americans way more than I said anything about Japanese. Do you realize how annoying that is?
@RoseSilicon Got it, so you're just insanely hateful of your own countrymen when it's only a few of them ruining the country for the rest of us rn. You should be directing all that anger at the companies, not Americans.
@RoseSilicon We do hate it a lot, actually. Shitty business billionaires and out-of-touch tech guys don't represent most of the population, lol. There are definitely a sizable chunk of them, but data centers in the states get tons of protest to the point that it becomes newsworthy.
@RoseSilicon Why are you veering so off-topic into your own crazy generalizations? Is there a reason you're throwing Americans underneath a bus while hypocritically telling me about it? Do you realize I'm an American?
@RoseSilicon Also, if you actually read what I said very closely, you'll see that I put a super obvious disclaimer of, "—from what I've seen," because I'm not silly enough to think I can accurately tell everything factually off of JP algorithm feeding me.
