Excited to share my BBC Radio Interview on the amazing Bridgitte Tetteh Show being in the top 100 BAME UK Tech leaders, working with schools, my journey/career into this sector and the challenges facing women.

@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji First is awareness & education so forums like this spread the message widely. Second is to pilot without fear of failure. Thirdly is to build a business case with revenue model to benefit Patients. Finally to engage the Govt and Dev Agencies to collaborate synergistically.
@ngrinnovation @KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji@NITDANigeria Ultrasound of pregnant women is a key area for AI to determine when a case will be critical with enough time to get to hospital and a treatment plan created. Wearable devices like activity monitors combined with health data can support disease management like diabetes and high Bp
@ngrinnovation @KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji@NITDANigeria AI is advancing many industries with large amounts of data. Fundamentally this enables analysis at a faster & in many cases better rate than humans. Most relevant case studies is diagnostics & prediction of disease where proxy markers in voice or DNA can trigger treatment.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji I truly believe that leap frog technologies will be set up routinely in Nig and visible for global adoption. The skills, desire, consumer power, internet & smart phone coverage are all success enabelers for the public and private sectors to accelerate tech innovation & adoption.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji Technology has a risk of failure so enduring back-up solutions exist for critical emergency care as facetoface is essential. Building trust & adequate training ensures human errors are also avoided & learnings taken. Maintenance of high quality services ensures sustainability.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji Risks: fraudulent data creates garbage in garbage out (especially for AI) which could have severe impacts so imagine the wrong diagnosis & treatment given. Data can be hacked and compromised. Cultural setting is key to adapt the technology to the African setting & not force fit.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji Direct Benefits: increasing access to healthcare, digitalisation and all that it brings, raising standards of care through data driven and evidence based clinical care & medicines, health data as a source of income for Patients, reduction of Govt burden on the Health Sector.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji Once databases, archives, servers have these adequate protections and controls etc, transparency for the owners is easily provided as well as any audit requirements by Govt agencies in near real time as part of the same network with permissions already in place.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji For the Blockchain solution in reference, all country level and global standards such as Guidance from NITDA on privacy, access and controls, data sovereignty, GDPR, HIPPAA all come into play on top of the highly secure cryptographic coding.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji Access is for purpose of benefitting the Patient first who must give permission as true owners of the data, so Medical Team, Researchers like Pharma or Academia, Government for Policy and Regulation on Medication can access.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji The everyday African should realise that their health data is the new GOLD. African genomics is the most diverse of any race and holds the key to understanding many disease pathways. Some emerging diseases like Ebola need health data which can only come from Africa.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji In particular, most paper records in clinics should be digital and this requires infrastructure like the internet and electricity. I noted google and others investing in high speed internet in Nig. Tech incubators coming up to build out fit for purpose tech and skilled staff.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji My observation low use of health data due to a lack of visibility and standardisation so that any new adopters can leverage best practises. Data sits in silos with few networks that truly aggregate or can bubble the data up for commercialisation & research. This is changing fast.
@MadinatuTukur @ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji Agree there is a certain activation energy needed for market entry or tech start up to start or scale. But first steps is to pilot. Then build a robust business plan based on solid User Experience which will generate revenue at very affordable costs. It is primarily about value.
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji Blockchain patient data exchange is an example of a technology solution where digital health records can be linked to the owners of the data (as remote as a village in JOS) so long as they have an Android or IOS device and can receive FIAT or a suitable incentive. #OIIEchat
@ngrinnovation @NITDANigeria@KashifuInuwa@DrSamboMagaji What technology can also provide is democratisation of health data where people can now trade and benefit from providing their health data (genetic, medication, disease history etc) for research purposes and to inform on policy and to make better therapies. #OIIEchat
