What I thought success looked like:
- Getting qualified in all the agile frameworks
- Being employed by Big Names
- Attending every conference
What success actually looks like:
- Deeply understanding agile philosophy
- Being employed
- Attending every family event
5. Summarise and Reflect
At the end of the conversation, give the speaker a summary of the main points they've made.
Reflect on the emotions they've expressed.
This not only confirms that you've been listening but also shows that you genuinely care about what the speaker says.
The world’s most valuable skill is listening.
Unfortunately, the chatter in our heads keeps us from listening. Most of the time, when we're meant to be listening, we're really just waiting to speak, all the while not realising the person talking to us has valuable information.
4. Respond Appropriately
By actively engaging in the conversation, you can learn more about the speaker and the topic.
Avoid interrupting; allow the speaker to finish their thoughts before asking for more.
To have a more meaningful exchange, use open-ended questions.
