What if the biggest challenge with AI in agriculture is not the technology, but trust?
Farmers need tools that explain, support, and respect their judgment.
The future of agricultural AI will belong to systems built with people, not just for people.
Educational Field Trip Experience for Animal Production Students
Last week, students in the Animal Production option from University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (@UTAB_BYUMBA )had the privilege of participating in an educational field trip designed to strengthen their practical knowledge and expose them to advanced livestock production and research activities in Rwanda.
The first destination was the Songa Cattle Genetic Improvement Center at Rwanda Agriculture and Animal @RwandaAgriBoard Songa Station. During the visit, students gained valuable insights into cattle breeding programs, genetic selection, artificial insemination, and strategies used to improve cattle productivity and performance. The experience allowed students to connect theoretical concepts learned in the classroom with real-world practices that contribute to the development of Rwanda’s livestock sector.
The field trip then continued to RAB Rubona Station, where students visited the Animal Feed Laboratory. At the laboratory, they learned about feed sampling procedures, feed quality evaluation, nutritional analysis, and laboratory techniques used to assess animal feeds. Students had the opportunity to observe how scientific testing ensures that livestock receive balanced and high-quality nutrition, which is essential for animal health, growth, and productivity.
This educational tour provided an excellent platform for experiential learning, enabling students to interact with researchers and professionals, ask questions, and better understand the role of research and innovation in modern animal production systems. Such experiences are crucial in preparing future animal scientists and livestock professionals capable of addressing challenges in the agricultural sector and contributing to sustainable livestock development.
We sincerely thank the management and staff of @RwandaAgriBoard Songa and Rubona stations for their warm reception, guidance, and willingness to share their expertise with students.
Special appreciation goes to @UTAB_BYUMBA for organizing and supporting this valuable field trip. By providing opportunities for practical exposure and hands-on learning, UTAB continues to demonstrate its commitment to producing competent graduates equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experience required to excel in the livestock and agricultural sectors.
