An Update. Grain fill on “wobbly” wheat tillers reduced by 70-80%. Still no firm conclusions as to cause but a physiological response to wet August seems extremely unlikely.

Crop certainly went from severe moisture stress to a wet August but this isn’t uncommon and I haven’t seen this type of response before. The stem shows whitening at apex of curve and I’m not convinced grain fill is progressing as it should.

Has anyone seen a wheat crop do this before. No frosts recorded so think we can rule that out and have been able to rule out herbicide. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback so far. The phenoxy angle is one we’re chasing up but it certainly wasn’t from a direct application.
