Such a joy talking to @livinglon about walking from London to South Downs National Park as part of a @SlowWaysUK and @alltheelements_ initiative. Loved venturing from a National Park City to a National Park!

Yesterday's #SlowWays walk with @LondonNPC Rangers @agreeninn & @8dipatel8 Caterham to Oxted 3. Showery but beautiful walk. Fungi, trees, vineyards and stunning views.
"This was to be my first trip to the Highlands and my first experience of wild camping!"
@livinglon and @agreeninn embark on a multi-day Slow Ways adventure through the beautiful and mysterious Scottish Highlands. Things don’t go as planned…

Hiking outside the UK can be one of the most powerful ways of understanding how naturally impoverished the British landscape is, particularly the high places and uplands.
A thread following a trip to the Alps which vividly reminded me of what we're missing. 🧵

Hyde Park is a much loved London gem, which gets v busy with people walking.
With more Londoners cycling, our Park Lane cycleway provides a safe alternative for bikes (accessible at night), prioritising the park for walking & slower cyclists.
We're making Park Lane permanent.

And bc I'm a fan of Plans B, C, D, etc, bus stops at Braithwaite, Lanthwaite Farm, Buttermere, Gatesgarth (nr path up Scarth Gap), Wasdale Head (tho taxi prob faster), and all along the road from Seatoller to Keswick. (£2 fare!)
Spontaneous long weekend in the Lake District to do a few @SlowWaysUK! 🧵 Today, first was Keswick to Loweswater 2, since 40-50mph winds up at summits meant rerouting to low level walks. Still got nearly blown away at the Coledale Haus pass, but wow, gorgeous walk! #walking
@SlowWaysUK After a mega blistery night in the tent by the tarn, we continued @SlowWaysUK Wasdale Head to Keswick. The walk also forms the route to Scafell Pike so met a lot of other walkers on the way up as we headed down. At the YHA Borrowdale Hostel for a coffee. 13km left to go! #walking
