Today’s soybean field trial visit was one of the most compelling we’ve seen with Phytalix biofungicide in Brazil.
Same field, same management, same base fungicide program. Only difference: one section received 2 early-season Phytalix applications.
Walking different parts of the field, the difference in plant health was striking and consistent.
@LowBoomLowDrift@Tedthekelpie I found this research paper reporting spray rates of 1000-3000L/ha in vegetable crops.
(“10a” =1/10 a hectare), so roughly 100-320 gal/acre.
Interesting!

TIL crop protection spray volumes in Japan are much higher than the US.
Where a US farmer might use 50-100 gal/acre of water, the Japanese farmer prefers 200-300 gal/acre. 😳
It’s fascinating how different countries solve the same problem in different ways.
@LowBoomLowDrift The way I heard it explained was habit and preference.
I can guess with smaller field sizes hauling that much volume is not as big an issue. 🤷
@LowBoomLowDrift@Qshizzle97 I should have clarified this was in the context of specialty and orchard crops.
Still I was totally surprised too b/c I’d never heard of rates this high…except for maybe in turf.
It’s no secret I’ve not been a fan of covers or fall stripping. I challenged myself hard over the past year to learn more about this system. With what I saw today, I can say I’ve NEVER been more wrong. We achieved our goal, beautiful strips to plant on with covers in between. Still a long way to go, but I love what I’m seeing so far. Shoutout to a fantastic job by @YetterFarmEquip strip freshner. And thank you @WiBeanBag@Diversified_Ag for staying on me to push harder and learn more. This is beautiful. @StripTillFarmr
Do you believe it’s possible to raise 250bu corn on 100# or less of Soil applied synthetic N?
No manure
Jus soil applied N
We did it on 146# last year and I rly want to get to 100# or less of soil applied N with 250bu corn.
Anyone want to try with me this year?
