โCan I bring my baby to the interview?โ
The message came in at 11 PM:
โHi, I have an interview with you tomorrow at 2 PM. My childcare fell through. Can I bring my 8-month-old? I understand if you need to reschedule.โ
Old me would have rescheduled.
Unprofessional. Distraction. Red flag.
New me replied:
โAbsolutely. See you tomorrow.โ
She showed up with her baby on her hip.
She apologized three times before even sitting down.
Ten minutes in, the baby started crying.
She tried to soothe him while answering questions.
She apologized again.
I stopped the interview and said:
โHey. Youโre managing a fussy baby, answering complex questions, and staying calm under pressure. Thatโs literally the job. Handling chaos while staying professional. Youโre already proving you can do it.โ
Her eyes filled with tears.
We hired her.
Sheโs been with us for a year now.
The most reliable team member we have.
Why?
Because when youโre used to handling a screaming infant at 3 AM and still showing up to work the next day, workplace stress feels like nothing.
Working parents, especially mothers, are some of the most organized, efficient, and resilient people youโll ever hire.
Yet we lose them because our hiring processes are built for people with zero caregiving responsibilities.
If your interview process canโt accommodate a parent facing a childcare issue, youโre not filtering for professionalism.
Youโre filtering for privilege.
@durandalcomplex Quebecoise here โ๐ป and it's in the law! It ties back to a history of protecting a language and culture when you're surrounded by English. France did not need such protection since they are historically the colonizers, and French is already secured and spoken across the country.
@Paribole@MadelaineLucyH "I saw something I liked so I had to take it *teehee* aren't I ambitious for going after what I want (touching your butt)? That certainly means I will be a good bread-winner." ๐คฎ
@thealokverse@pattinsonactor The only time I ever used a genderswap app was with my then-boyfriend. Did we break up soon after? Yes. Can I swear that it wasn't because he made a prettier girl than me? No.
NEW SONG: โSally & Jackโs Song - A Song Coverโ ๐งฃ Iโve always loved this song and its reprise, and feels especially poignant. https://t.co/BiJmkcCJgR
@CoraCHarrington@officialhambly This is like why I am always unfathomed by tv scenes of policemen running in what /appear/ to be department store dress shoes (irl they would be specialty shoes), but for functioning in life as a servant class while still slaying.
i see i've fallen back in favor with the algorithm, so i will use this power later to construct my most powerful, most infuriating, most biased thread about tiny clothing problems that have no real relevance and how you can solve them using expensive, impractical methods
i keep saying this periodically but this is still the best tweet on twitter. if you did nothing on twitter but read this tweet once a day it would be time enormously well spent
@frogs4girls blueskee would be more active if it had push notifications. I get why it doesn't, and can appreciate that, but at the same time that makes for small communities with lots of space between the walled gardens.
