▪️JCR has also raised India’s country ceiling by one notch to ‘A’

▪️The upgrade reflects India’s solid economic growth, the effectiveness of economic policies in strengthening the foundations for growth, and the improved soundness of the financial system

🌱 NUTRIENT IMMOBILIZATION IN SOIL — WHEN NUTRIENTS GET TEMPORARILY LOCKED! 🧪

Did you know that soil microorganisms can temporarily tie up nutrients, making them unavailable to plants? This process is called nutrient immobilization and commonly occurs when microbes decompose fresh, carbon-rich organic residues. 🌾

🔬 HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?

🌿 Fresh crop residues with a high C:N ratio provide abundant carbon.
🦠 Microorganisms use available nutrients—especially nitrogen (N)—for their growth.
🔒 These nutrients become incorporated into microbial biomass.
🌱 Plants may temporarily experience nutrient deficiency.
♻️ As microbial biomass decomposes, nutrients are gradually released back into the soil.

🧪 NUTRIENTS COMMONLY INVOLVED

🔹 Nitrogen (N) — most commonly immobilized
🔹 Phosphorus (P) — can be temporarily retained in microbial biomass
🔹 Sulfur (S) — may also be immobilized during residue decomposition

⚠️ WHAT INCREASES IMMOBILIZATION?

🌾 High-carbon residues such as straw
🦠 High microbial activity
💧 Adequate soil moisture
🌡️ Favorable temperatures
♻️ Addition of fresh organic materials

🌱 C:N RATIO — THE KEY TO SOIL NUTRIENT CYCLING! 🌾

The Carbon:Nitrogen (C:N) ratio indicates the balance of carbon and nitrogen in organic materials. It strongly influences decomposition, microbial activity and nitrogen availability in soil.

🔹 Ideal C:N ratio: 24:1–30:1
🔹 High C:N (>30:1): Slow decomposition → nitrogen immobilization
🔹 Low C:N (<20:1): Rapid decomposition → faster nitrogen release

🌾 Examples:
• Straw: 60–80:1
• Sawdust: 200–500:1
• Farmyard manure: 20–30:1
• Green leaves: 10–20:1
• Poultry manure: 8–12:1
