@DrFauziaKhanNCP @rishpardikar Well said, DAMU not only provides advisory services, it saves lakh of farmer lives from events of lightning. Severe lightning warnings are communicated by damu are found very useful to small, Marginal and tribal farmers. Which was not possible through ai, ml and private players.

२०१८ में IMD ने देश भर में १९९ जिला कृषि मौसम विज्ञान इकाइयाँ स्थापित कीं। DAMU के वैज्ञानिकों ने लाखों किसानों को बुवाई, कटाई, उर्वरक, कीटनाशक और सिंचाई पर मुफ्त, द्वि-साप्ताहिक सलाह प्रदान की। इन DAMU को मार्च २०२४ में बंद कर दिया गया है।

The shutdown of district agro-meteorological units (DAMUs)—an issue reported by @rishpardikar , that I raised in Parliament and also followed up with the Hon’ble Minister of Earth Sciences - is a matter of utmost concern.

DAMUs provide crucial localised climate advisories to farmers, especially in this era of extreme, unpredictable weather due to climate change.

While reports hint at their revival, an official clarification is urgently needed to reassure the thousands of farmers, employees at the district units and scientists relying on this service.
