🚨New Paper! 🚨
In the newly commissioned 2D-wave flume at @UCDCivEng, we performed experiments to conclude Eco-engineered vertical seawalls significantly decreased mean overtopping rates by up to 75%.

Last week, I was in Rome to present our research at the prestigious 38th International Conference on Coastal Engineering. Hugely benefitted by the comments from the best experts.
Acknowledging @MIFundingOffice, @MarineInst and @UCDCivEng for their funding support.

Congratulations to Civil Engineering PhDs - Mohadeseh Ashkarkalaei, Md Arman Habib, Mahmoud Abdelhek and Muhammad Saqlain - who won best student presentation awards at the Civil Engineering Research in Ireland conference last week. @Abdollah_Malekj@salauddinUCD@UCDEngArch
📢Award!📢
Happy to share that I won the ‘Best Presenter Award’ at the CERAI 2024 conference in the category of ‘Sustainable Cities and Climate’!
A note of thanks to my supervisor @salauddinUCD, my co-authors and the funders.

Honoured to have the opportunity to showcase the newly commissioned 2D wave flume fitted with wave generator @UCDCivEng during a visit of experts from the Engineering industry.
@salauddinUCD@UCD_CWRR.
Great honour to be awarded the 1st prize at @UCDCivEng Graduate Researchers' poster competition. Thanks to the organizers, judges, my colleagues and supervisors.

We are disgusted to have been overlooked in #Budget2024 despite assurances from @dfheris that IRC/SFI stipends would go up.
We are struggling. We are the backbone of Irish research & higher edu. We are undervalued by the state & our universities.
We are fighting back - join us
Researchers are protesting today.
We protested in March and nothing has changed.
PhD Researchers in Ireland earn well below minimum wage and don't have access to typical employment benefits/rights.
This is unsustainable and unacceptable. Make a stand today.

How accurate are AI in predicting #coastalhazards such as #overtopping? To what extent are the results consistent with the physics of overtopping? Is AI really a black-box for prediction tasks? [Link to our new paper in photo desc.]

@bhogleharsha But in the recent #BdvsInd t20 wc game you taught us that pointing fingers at umpires is an insult to their efforts and that we should gracefully accept defeat.
Presented our reseaech on application of #AI in mitigating coastal hazards, today, at the '2023 UCD STEM Early Career Researchers Symposium' to receive insightful remarks from the audience. @UCD_Research@UCD_CWRR@UCDCivEng@UCDEngArch@salauddinUCD
That’s huge! Wave flume is now up and running here at UCD @UCDCivEng@UCD_CWRR # Capable of generating both storm and swell sea states. Thanks to UCD (Equipment Fund) & School of Civil Engineering. #offshore#climate#coastalengineering
@brianmlucey@NathanCAGray After all that's been going on for a while and also with the National Review being done, if you still are looking for an "informed debate" , somebody needs to be a hungry hunter i am afraid.
@NathanCAGray @GaRoDean My honest to take is that postgraduate students aren't employees.
I worry about stipends that are overly generous because in my view a hungry hunter is the best hunter. I also think a lot of this as being driven by reasonable envy of industry linked stem stipends
