Cloudy and cool, nice day to continue my reading under the tree on the beach.
Still the same book, about the thoughts of one of the most important Chinese philosopher, WANG Yangming( 王阳明), who is exactly 500 years elder than me.
Actually, his philosophical thoughts have heavily influenced contemporary China, it is quite helpful to understand China by knowing a little bit about him. Here are two examples.
1, His most important advocate is "unity of knowledge and action" (知行合一), which could also be put as "true knowledge must be tested through action".
This has actually become a cornerstone in modern Chinese education and governance, fostering a culture of integrity and proactive problem-solving.
2, His belief that "everyone can become a sage" (人人皆可为圣贤) offers profound implications for challenging elitism and constructing an inclusive society. Practically, it makes possible China's successful building of a moderately perousperous society in all respects (全面建成小康社会), which is literally for each and every Chinese.
Just for your reference, friends. A little bit brainy, but I am sure most of you could easily get it. We have similar mindset.

"Dear delegates, heads of state, leaders of nations, respected representatives of large and small nations, I do not greet you as a career diplomat or as a man brought up for banquet halls and handshakes. I do not come to speak to you in the skillful language of polished politics. I come to you as a soldier of my people, as a guardian of a wounded country, as a son of a continent that bore the cross of the world, but never its crown."
My name is Captain Ibrahim Traore, President of Burkina Faso. Today I speak not only on behalf of the 22 million souls in my country, but also on behalf of a continent whose stories have been distorted, whose pain has been ignored and whose dignity has been repeatedly sold on the altar of foreign interests.
Africa is not a beggar. Africa is not a battlefield. Africa is not your guinea pig, your puppet, your warehouse of raw materials. Africa does not rise to kneel, but to stand on its feet. Even today, in front of this great assembly of nations, I say: Africa will not kneel.
1. About the false generosity of global politics
For decades, you helped us with one hand, while you sucked our blood with the other. You build wells in our villages, while your corporations dry up our rivers. You donate vaccines, but you patent medicines. You talk about climate action, and you continue to fund those who burn our forests and drain our lakes.
What kind of generosity is that? The one that feeds her mouth but chokes her voice. One that keeps a person alive long enough to remain dependent. We are not blind to this hypocrisy. Let's be clear - we are not ungrateful for sincere humanitarian aid, but we reject a world order that disguises exploitation as partnership. We reject financial institutions that lend with one hand and take sovereignty with the other.
Africa no longer wants mercy - we want justice. We want control over our own destiny.
2. About colonial chains and their modern successors
Our wounds did not begin with us. They are the legacy of an imperial folly that saw us not as people, but as cheap cargo, as labor. My ancestors were not asked when maps were drawn with rulers and compasses in Berlin. The borders of Burkina Faso, like many African countries, were not shaped by our ancestors, but by people who never set foot on our soil, who knew nothing of our languages, tribes or spirits.
Today, colonialism has a new face - it wears suits, organizes forums, signs treaties in Geneva, Paris and Washington. But he still takes without consent, still commands instead of dialogue, still remains silent instead of listening. If you want to talk about peace, let's start by rejecting the arrogance of the idea that only you can teach peace.
3. On the exploitation of resources and the myth of development
You call us "developing countries" - as if centuries of theft did not set us back, as if gold from our lands, diamonds from our rivers, oil under our feet, did not build the skyscrapers in which this assembly now sits.
Let's be clear: Burkina Faso is rich. Africa is rich - in minerals, culture, wisdom and youth. But you taught us to measure wealth by GDP and exports. You call that development when a foreign company owns 90% of the gold mines in our country. You call it progress when your security forces guard the cobalt mines but not the schools for our children. That's not progress - that's legal document piracy.
From now on, we will define development in our own words - development that puts children in classrooms, not minerals on ships. Development that respects the land, the people and the soul of the nation.
4. On sovereignty and interference
Why do you call us unstable when some African country makes independent decisions? Why when we ask for military cooperation outside the colonial sphere, they call it a threat?
Burkina Faso has decided to take the path of sovereignty.
