My first international column on Rampur was published yesterday. Special thanks to @iamrana@niyati_bhat@DrTarana@Diplomat_APAC @razakkhan_tabir for the inspiration, help and direction. Miles to go on this one!
Nothing new. Hospitals abuse pregnant employees a lot. won’t hire them if they’re pregnant. They’d reduce their salaries when they rejoin. They even force them to work until they leave on their own accord. I’ve had many nurses and doctor colleagues who have faced this.
A pregnant Senior Resident in Kerala continued emergency duties, managed patients, and even worked multiple 24-hour shifts close to her due date. Yet when her tenure extension was considered, her pregnancy—not her performance—became the deciding factor.
How can a healthcare system that claims to care for women punish a doctor for becoming a mother?
No woman should lose opportunities because she is pregnant. No doctor should have to choose between motherhood and her career.
This isn’t just one doctor’s story. It’s the reality faced by countless women in medicine.

Pleural Effusions in Kids can sometimes be missed by Chest X-Ray. ECHO with a S-5 probe can help diagnose evolving effusions especially after pediatric cardiac surgery
Happy to announce that Prof. Petra Sijpesteijn & I finished the edition & study of an early papyrus list of Islamic prophet Muhammad's wives—which I'd discovered a few years ago—earlier this week. Here's a photo of the recto exhibiting the title [u]mmuhāt al-muʾminīn. Stay tuned!
The world doesn’t know this but ASI is currently digging a water cistern near Elephanta and it blows my mind how similar this looks to the Harappa excavations!
I don’t know why people around Rampur or other cities around safeguard their histories as if they are eternals! Fighting to get permission for archives is such an issue here! Idk if this is with every other writer? Thankfully today was not one of days!
Here Begum Rafat Zamani begum is wearing the Rampuri Zenana Begumat crown with diamonds, Jadau necklaces and ear rings with a huge ruby and pearl based hath phool, which remains one of my favourites in her jewellery collection.
Finding the manuscript for Padmavat in Urdu in my research at Rampur had been truly a surprise. A certain Rohilla chieftain Najju Khan got this idea but couldn’t get it to fruition. Until it was taken up by scholars in Rampur a few years later.
