@DanMulhall Border with NI, all 499 kms of it with 281 crossings, sealed in 2001 with Foot & Mouth disease in UK and NI. Sealed by 4 organs of the State; Garda, Defence Forces, Customs & Excise and D Ag personnel. Current state of DF & deficit in border ops knowledge of all 4 now a reality.
@MoorcroftRico@RedDave14@JoeBrad29403090@ConorHogarty When not one minister can be bothered showing up to the commissioning of the largest Naval cadet class in years, it shows they couldnt give a toss about recruitment or retention. The minister sent the DoD Sec Gen down to read her speech instead.
The Irish political establishment keeps the military under civil control - as it should be. But this is wrong. No officer should be saluting a civil servant standing in lieu of a minister. @DF_COS and FOCNS should not have accepted this. There is NO precedent for this 💩
The Irish Defence Forces has said it is disappointed about how the memorial to members who died in service was recently used as an access point to an event.

Lack of #Respect ☘️🇮🇪☘️
Today with Senator J O’Reilly, @EUFORBIH Commander & @DefenceForces, @IrlEmbSarajevo remembered Garda Sergeant Paul Reid who was killed in Sarajevo on 18 May 1995 while on peacekeeping duty. Our thoughts are with Garda Reid’s family on this sad day. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Our gardeners at @johnstowncastle are transforming the lakes into thriving wildlife habitats. 🌿
By leaving overhanging branches & fallen trees, they’re creating shaded refuges for fish & perfect perches for herons & kingfishers.
A small, strategic change making a big difference
Winter at @johnstowncastle brings crisp lakeside views, quiet woodland paths and important seasonal conservation work. Our team continues to support biodiversity and sustainability across the estate - a beautiful time for a winter walk. Members can enjoy it all year round.
Did you know @johnstowncastle is home to one of Ireland’s longest servants’ tunnels?
Running an impressive 86 metres beneath the estate, it reflects the engineering & social customs that shaped 19th-century life - a unique glimpse into the work that powered the estate.
Amazing result for @defenceforces and the Cavalry Corps - which does not operate the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
Irish Troopers had only 3 weeks instruction on the vehicle.
@rtenews
Completely agree @BrigidLaffan For years Irish Department of Defence declined invitations to join annual Baltops maritime exercise which was led by the US. Now there is a specifically European and mainly EU group. D/Defence should set out their thinking on this. @TonyG_NS
@DecKelleher@BrigidLaffan@TonyG_NS Long overdue decision to overturn such flawed historical DOD insularity is government to decide for Defence Policy Advice to be provided jointly by Sec Gen DOD and DF COS and not Sec Gen DOD solely as currently. Sec Gens DOD have NO credible competence in this critical role.
Very interesting piece. It doesn’t address the Irish question but I feel like I’ve been banging my head against a wall in my reporting re Article 42.7 TFEU.
Regardless I sense a slightly different interpretation of the Article in the DOD recently. Interesting policy discussion.
Congratulations to the 28 Inf Bn team who participated in the Massachusetts Best Warrior Competition and to Cpl Dylan Quigg who was outright winner and highest place NCO in the competition.
⚠️Islamist terrorism is a “significant cause of concern” for Ireland, along with threats from “lone wolf” attacks and “hostile state actors”
⚠️Extreme rightwing and leftwing terrorism are also now real concerns
