@Maverick132306 Let me repeat this since some of you aren’t understanding. Somalia has a history of supporting African liberation movements, including the struggles in South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Our contributions to Africa go way beyond what you choose to acknowledge. 🇸🇴
I long for an Africa so developed and prosperous that seeking opportunities in the West becomes a choice rather than a necessity. Our continent has the potential to create opportunities for its own people.
Africa's biggest challenge is not just the people who exploit its resources. It's also the systems that make exploitation possible and the mentality that allows it to continue.
congrats you’re hyper focused on our controversial dictator whose regime led to horrible civil war. a lot of context being omitted from the bad facts states. What of Somalia before that? We also did provide significant aid to Eritrea during their independence war
Somalia didn’t care for Eritrea, Palestine or Africa as a whole, only itself.
In the 70s, it served the Soviets in spreading Marxism across Africa in exchange for arms.
By the 80s it served the anti-Marxist Safari Club (relations with apartheid South Africa, Rhodesia & Israel).
@davewst okay we’re getting a little off topic and I understand that politics are based off of morals but my original point still stands. Somalia did exhibit pan-African ideals. prior to Said Barre, we were moving the direction of being an international hub (which could only come
@davewst Abiy also tried Djibouti and Somalia (prob still will) but had no luck. Also, Ethiopia has been poisoning the Somali ppl of Ogaden so they can have full control over the land. More territory/land, greater resources, larger empire = more control. None of this has to do w religion
I know you’re a troll atp but Ethiopia and Somalia did not fight because of religious reasons. Ethiopia wants water access and has tried forcefully take from Somalia, Djibouti and Eritrea. Somalia has the longest coast line in Africa - many reasons why we’ve invaded often
@ahhbien the only difference between Somalia and Ethiopia is religious, the only reason they’re separate, the only reason they fought
pan-Africanism doesn’t care for religious differences, it’s about African unity and integration
@davewst loses a significant chunk of land. That reduces the size of their empire. Currently, Abiy is fighting Eritrea to gain control of the port. A sore, long standing issue on both sides that was supposed to handled respectfully by Abiy which he went back on.
@davewst You think so? Ethiopia has a history of impeding on the liberties and freedoms of their neighbors. Look @ them today. I feel like partnering with Ethiopia goes directly against pan Africanism ideals. Ik ppl look up to them bc of misinfo
@davewst with the reputation of being the Switzerland” of Africa. I don’t like speaking on Said Barre because of how controversial he was (he also overthrew my grandad) but he also understood the importance of allyship w fellow African nations
@davewst I have had personal accounts of non Muslim Eritreans being able to attain Somali passports. I’m not sure where you are getting Somalia being a supporter of Ethiopia. From all the history I know, we’ve been in conflict or amicable at best but never allies
@davewst That’s no t true. Because my own tribe has had to fight against Tigrayans and Amharas - dating all the way back to my great grandfather. There’s no documented evidence of anything you’re saying
@davewst omg do you know anything about that war? Ethiopia stopped the production of passports for Eritreans so they could not escape the war. Somalia provided passports for all Eritrean people looking to leave the country or we took them in and shielded them from war.
There’s also plenty of documented evidence of Somalis protesting for other countries. So confused where any of this rhetoric that Somalia is selfish comes from. That’s never been our ministry
@davewst I was debating if I was gonna respond - you’re cherry picking bad facts and not looking at context. Prior to Said Barre, there’s plenty of examples of Pan-Africanism in Somalia. We have been documented several times as being called with Switzerland of Africa. Do your research
