Once you accept that compounding is fake you will be much happier.
Now that avocado sandwich is not worth $120,000 when you’re too old to eat it because all your teeth have fallen out.
Trade money for time.
For happiness.
For kids.
For a stepping stone that concretely, instead of abstractly, lets you do something that you want to do.
You stop stacking money for the sake of a near-religious concept that was pounded into your head by secretly sad old rich men.
You realize that not all money is created equal and that a dollar created joyously is much more powerful than one made sacrificing one’s soul.
It’s freeing.
See the propaganda move?
Make the image emotionally overwhelming, then pretend the only possible objection is hatred of America.
Nobody has to pretend to be mad at a flyover.
It looks cool.
That is not the critique.
The critique is that cool imagery is being used to launder the structure underneath it.
The White House becomes the set.
The military supplies the emotional force.
UFC supplies the combat aesthetic.
Paramount+ gets the paid stream.
Trump-world and politically connected corporations get the branding halo.
And then accounts like this say: if you notice the machinery, you must hate America.
No.
I like the flyover.
I dislike fake patriotism that turns the country into ad inventory.
This is Don Draper selling belonging after tribal sorting so the powerful concentrate more power.
Working-class people are not props.
Marines are not props.
National monuments are not props.
The issue is billionaires turning the White House into branded regime content, then hiding behind “the working class” when anyone notices the circus.
It's utterly ridiculous that we have all these supposed billionaire geniuses running around, and their greatest innovation of our lifetime has been stealing our personal data to sell us targeted ads.
This post is an excellent litmus test for understanding of just war theory.
Despite the fact that I can see how effective this would be, I must oppose it because the damage it would do to my enemy (who bashes in my mailbox) would far outweigh the good of saving my mailbox. Its disproportionality is opposed by our duty in charity (and even justice) to watch out even for the good of our enemies.
(Yes, by the way, I have had my mailbox bashed in by random vandals.)
Who was it that said "if you live in a 15 minute city but your barista has an hour-long commute you don't live in a city; you live in an amusement park"
If you have a young family and you can’t find a house, look on the bright side, you get to subsidize a 80 year old millionaire widow so she can continue to live in her 5 bedroom house until she dies! Oh and by the way, your kid’s school is shutting down!
Thinking about the young butch woman who was a welder fresh out of Trade school, who was brutally beaten to death at work by her much older male coworker a few months ago
The thing about living in the south is, you can leave a high security research lab, on the campus of a top tier R-1 research university to go to an appointment with a world renowned medical expert but this will inevitably involve driving down Hog Mountain Rd.
fuuuuck i just realized that the future idealized version of myself cant exist without current me being the catalyst for change and doing hard things. has anybody heard about this
The most pampered and babied trade there is, I’ve never understood the lineman worship, I understand that people are addicted to their electricity, but I work in the energy industry, and people acting like these guys making 150k for pretty easy work, are heroes or something, always boggles me.
If I were a man I too would be the loudest advocate for marriage. In fact I’m constantly impressed by how thoroughly women were convinced that an institution offering men comfort and unpaid labor was somehow their prize. Imagine waking up to a life where your domestic needs
