and he knew they would get back just fine, because lishen had never let him down before, and he knew the general never would!
"oh, I'm not too cold! it's actually somewhat similar to my room, really."
“ so long as we make it back safely tonight, without incident, then of course. we simply have to be careful in the meantime. ”
bearing that in mind, jie lishen finally offers out his arm for sun xie.
“ it is a possibility, but there are heavier robes one can wear to prevent that and usually we did. perhaps i could put in an order for you for the next time we venture outside. ”
"doesn't that get your robes wet? and then you're all cold, and you'd get sick, wouldn't you?" he stared at the ground, wondering. . .
if he was someone else, perhaps, it would make sense. perhaps he would even give it a try.
@ahiddencrown “ it was. ”
it’s a shame he doesn’t remember the stories or even what his father looked like anymore.
“ i’m not sure if i did, but they aren’t hard to make. you just lie down in the snow on your back and spread out your arms and legs a couple times. ”
@jie_lishen there's a pang in his chest that he doesn't want to acknowledge.
"that sounds. . . nice. an enjoyable way to spend time shut in." he turns away now, tugging almost anxiously at the hem of his sleeve. "did you make one of those. . . snow angels that you mentioned earlier?
@jie_lishen a part of him wished he could see it in the sunlight, but a part of him knew it couldn't get more beautiful than this, with the frost sparkling under the glow of the moon.
"Was it like this where you grew up?" Of course, he had no idea where that was, but any bit of—
@jie_lishen "what about the whole empire? do you think it all looks like this?" he truly has no idea, never having traveled outside of the capital— hell, he's barely been in the city before, either. It could look like a barren wasteland for all he knew.
@jie_lishen "thank you." before he can think better of it, he's standing on his toes to press a quick peck upon the general's cheek, immediately turning and hurrying off the next moment.
"do you think the whole forest is covered like this?" he calls back as if nothing happened.
@jie_lishen — weather.
"I am! a lot. I had no idea—" he hushes himself, always a bit embarrassed by how little he / actually / knew of the world outside the castle.
@jie_lishen and with how many things were new to him, could you really blame the prince? no? exactly!
he hope the general doesn't notice the faint flush of his cheeks when he brushes over his hair, and if he does notice, sun xie hopes he simply assumes it is an aftereffect of the cold—
@jie_lishen "thank you." he's a little shaky as he gets to his feet, but the hand offered certainly helps.
"I swear I was paying attention when you told me to watch my step! I just didn't think about it for one second, and boom!"
@jie_lishen "it gets even more snow than this? wow. . ." he paused his exploring to try and picture it, the trees covered in white, the ground invisible under the layer of snow.
"so what happens when it me—" THUD. laughter. he's face first in the snow, absolutely howling with laughter—
@jie_lishen he would certainly get lost on his own, so really, it's for the best lishen trails after him.
he's darting between trees, stopping to look at the few leaves covered in frost. the moonlight makes everything shine so beautifully, and he cannot get enough of it.
"is it like—
@jie_lishen he turns to his general as he speaks, a beaming smile shining his way. he couldn't seem to ( stop ) smiling, even if he tried.
"thank you. this is much better than being cooped up in the castle." with that, he turns, another spin given as he makes his way into the forest.
@jie_lishen he takes his words to heart, but immediately discards them at the sight of the frost covered forest. his eyes are wide as he darts out of the passage, his laughter echoing as he spins to get a good look at everything.
"it's beautiful!"
