Today I spoke in the House of Commons explaining why anti-Zionism is a form of antisemitism. Criticizing Israel’s government is legitimate. Calling for Israel’s destruction is not.

See my remarks from yesterday when asked about October 7th and Alexandre Look. May his memory be a blessing.

Three years ago, we witnessed the largest atrocity against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists carried out a savage attack on Israel, the deadliest attack against Jews since the Holocaust. 1,200 people were killed & over 200 were taken hostage. Among those killed were 8 Canadians including Alex Look. May their memories be a blessing.

Congratulations, Premier-designate @PaulPlamondon, on your election victory.

Building a stronger Québec is core to our mission of building a stronger Canada. I look forward to working with you to support Québec’s businesses and workers impacted by tariffs, create more good jobs, work to end homelessness, and get more homes built across Québec.

Thank you, Premier @CFrechette, for your service to Québec and to Canada. We got a lot done together — from Churchill Falls to one of the largest infrastructure investments in Québecs history. I wish you all the best in what comes next.

[Mark Carney @MarkJCarney]

The UK Greens have crossed the rubicon. Anti-Zionism (the complete denial of Israel’s right to exist) is antisemitism plain and simple. I am disgusted.

It was wonderful to attend the 27th anniversary of the Kababaihang Rizalista tonight.

C’était merveilleux d’assister ce soir au 27e anniversaire du Kababaihang Rizalista.

This morning I had the pleasure of celebrating National Seniors Day in Town of Mount Royal. Ce matin, j’ai eu le plaisir de passer la Journée nationale des aînés à Ville Mont-Royal

My statement on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation:

[Anthony Housefather @AHousefather]

It has been an absolute pleasure frequently working across the aisle with @ScottAAitchison , he is a true class act and proof of what we jointly wrote in an oped “you can disagree without being disagreeable”. I wish you the best Scott!

[Scott Aitchison @ScottAAitchison]

I have made the difficult decision to resign my seat following the conclusion of the fall parliamentary session. After 30 years of public life, it is time for a new chapter where I will explore new opportunities.

From being elected to Huntsville Town Council and Muskoka District Council at the age of 21, to serving as Mayor of Huntsville and, for the past seven years, as your Member of Parliament, it has been the honour of my lifetime to serve you and represent our community.

Whether it was in the council chambers, or the halls of Ottawa, I worked to build consensus, cut through the bureaucracy, and make life better for the people who placed their trust in me. I carried myself with the same values of the town that raised me: respect, decency, and looking out for your neighbour.

My time as Shadow Housing Minister has allowed me to contribute to a fundamental shift in the national debate on housing. All levels of government have recognized the burden over regulation and excessive taxes and fees place on housing affordability. Our Conservative team can be proud of the work we have done on this file and I know the team will continue this work after my departure.

To the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka who placed their trust in me, and those who I disagreed with but promised passionate representation to, I hope I have made you proud.

I want to thank my incredible staff who have served me and the people of Parry Sound–Muskoka with distinction. None of this would have been possible without you.

To my caucus colleagues and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, it has been a privilege to serve alongside you. I have been fortunate to meet Canadians from coast-to-coast who are counting on us to champion efforts to make life more affordable for all Canadians. I know you will continue this mission.

Sincerely,
Scott Aitchison, M.P.

A beautiful message from the City of Belleville.

[City of Belleville @BellevilleON]

One week ago, our City was shaken by a hate-motivated attack targeting Belleville’s Jewish community at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue.

In the days since, we have seen the very best of Belleville. We have seen our community come together during a time of great difficulty, an outpouring of gratitude and recognition for Constables Jeff Smith and Mike McCurdy and all of the first responders who answered the call that night, and unwavering support for our Jewish community.

As we reflect on the events of last Sunday and the impact they have had on our city, we are clear that there is no place for antisemitism, hate or violence in Belleville. Everyone deserves to feel safe in our community and in their place of worship. We stand firmly with Belleville’s Jewish community and all those who have been impacted by this horrific act of hate.

Constables Jeff Smith and Mike McCurdy are true heroes who showed extraordinary courage that night. They put themselves in harm’s way, saving the lives of many and preventing an unimaginable tragedy. We are incredibly proud and grateful to have them serving our community. Our thoughts remain with Constable Smith and his family as he begins his road to recovery from the serious injuries he sustained in the line of duty.

In the face of hate and violence, Belleville responded with compassion, strength and unity. We looked out for one another, stood together and showed what it means to be a community.

To Belleville’s Jewish community, Constables Smith and McCurdy, our first responders and everyone impacted: Belleville stands with you. ❤️

Congratulations to Isabella Komšić on her appointment as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Croatia in Montréal. Honoured to be invited to celebrate this special occasion with her and Croatia’s Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, H.E. Gordan Grlić Radman.

I stand by every word that I said here. By the way, this is the 100th time that Yves Engler has accosted me and he still can’t spell my name right. His research skills are remarkable.

“You are literally one of the biggest antisemites in Canada” & “one of the worst antisemites in the country” was Liberal MP Anthony Hausfather’s response to my question outside Parliament

The Government of Canada has accepted that anti-Zionism embodies antisemitism.

Huge and positive development.

[CIJA @CIJAinfo]

CIJA Welcomes Progress Report on National Commitments to Combat Antisemitism:

The federal government’s progress report on its commitments to combat antisemitism underscores the seriousness of the threat to Canada’s national security, social cohesion and democratic values.

We welcome the government’s clear affirmation that antisemitism includes antizionism, which institutions across Canada must recognize and address.

In addition to highlighting two important milestones – the significant investment in Canada Community Security Program and the passage of the Combatting Hate Act – the report lays out three pillars for action with intended outcomes that, if fully implemented correctly, could have a meaningful impact on the safety of our community.

We will continue to advocate fiercely for urgent, concrete steps necessary to safeguard our community.

We appreciate Ministers @SeanFraserMP and @Gary_SRP's commitment to advancing this agenda, to promoting consistent enforcement of the law and key reforms to further strengthen security for our communities.

On Yom Kippur in Belleville, the extraordinary heroism of Constables Jeff Smith, Michael McCurdy and their fellow police officers helped prevent what could have been a mass-casualty terrorist attack. Their bravery is an example for all Canadians of the courage and resolve required to confront this shared threat to our safety and way of life.
