Request for Urgent Humanitarian Assistance
We kindly request urgent assistance for 23 families in Hakkala Estate, Welimada, affected by Cyclone Dithwa. Their temporary shelters were damaged again, & they have lost both their homes and daily income from vegetable plantation work.
When crimes go uninvestigated and perpetrators remain unpunished, impunity becomes state policy. During Black July 1983, Tamil detainees were brutally murdered in prison while those responsible for their protection failed to prevent the killings.

On the 31st anniversary of the Navaly Church bombing, we remember the innocent victims and stand with their families. May their memories never fade, and may they rest in peace.
Today marks the anniversary of fugitive Gotabaya Rajapaksa fleeing the country, abandoning his responsibilities as President at the height of Sri Lanka's worst economic crisis.
We know many of the disappeared are unlikely to be alive. The state has a duty to investigate their fate and tell their families the truth. Those responsible for enforced disappearances must be brought to justice, held accountable, and punished accordingly

@Dailymirror_SL So far, AKD appears to be following the pattern of previous administrations. Political considerations and electoral support seem to outweigh the urgent need to address long-standing national and ethnic issues, ensure justice, and end impunity.
@MihoyMinoy42069 Truth, accountability, and an end to impunity are essential for genuine reconciliation and to ensure such atrocities are never repeated.
The first mistake may be a mistake. Allowing it to go unpunished becomes state policy. After the indipendence & during Black July 1983, Tamil detainees were murdered in a high-security prison while officials stood by. No one was brought to justice. That is the legacy of impunity.
@MihoyMinoy42069 Thirty-five Tamil prisoners were killed while in state custody. On 27 July 1983, another 18 Tamil prisoners were killed in a second attack inside the same high security prison. No one has been convicted for the killings. In total, 53 Tamil detainees.
@TamilGuardian@SLcampaign At least 134 Sri Lankan peacekeepers in Haiti were accused of sexually exploiting and abusing nine Haitian children between 2004–2007. Sri Lanka paid compensation to one victim and her child, yet none of the accused faced trial. Now, another deployment is being prepared.

A historic contingent of 1,132 Sri Lanka Army and Police STF personnel, including 43 female soldiers trained in demining and explosive ordnance disposal, is set to depart for UN peacekeeping duties in Haiti this August. Equipped with armoured and Uni Buffel vehicles, the battalion marks the largest single deployment in Sri Lanka’s history. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, attending the Panagoda send‑off ceremony, hailed the mission as a source of national pride, stressing that the troops carry the country’s honour and dignity on their shoulders while demonstrating Sri Lanka’s commitment to protecting democracy and human rights worldwide.

A timely call for accountability. Sri Lankan military and police deployments to Haiti must not proceed without an independent, transparent human rights vetting process with meaningful OHCHR participation. Justice and accountability must come first.

Joint Letter Published: Urgent Concerns Over Sri Lankan Deployment to Haiti
The ITJP, together with 13 international human rights, victims’ and Tamil diaspora groups, has issued a joint letter calling on the United Nations, the Government of Haiti, and the Gang Suppression Force Standing Committee to immediately suspend the planned deployment of Sri Lankan military and police personnel to Haiti pending the establishment of an independent, credible and transparent human rights vetting and screening mechanism with meaningful OHCHR participation.

With over 400 remains uncovered at the Chemmani mass grave, concerns persist that further human remains may be found at sites such as the Thaiyiddy temple area. Independent and transparent investigations are essential.

June 20 – World Refugee Day
Today we stand in solidarity with millions of refugees forced to flee conflict, persecution, discrimination, and violence. Under this year's theme, “Hope Away from Home,” let us support their resilience, dignity, and right to a better future.
@Vinojana9 Chemmani, Sri Lanka's largest identified mass grave, has revealed the remains of at least 366 individuals. Proper excavations at disputed sites like Thaiyiddy and other where structures have been hurriedly or unlawfully built. Truth and accountability cannot be buried forever.

@Dailymirror_SL Justice must be delivered equally to all victims, especially Tamils who have suffered atrocities, violence, displacement, and loss since independence. Focusing only on selected victims, such as those of the Easter Sunday attacks, amounts to selective justice—not equal justice.
