When this strength is used to call out misogyny, misogynoir, homophobia, transphobia and more, black women are “too aggressive” or “too tough” or “too masculine.” They are told it is not the time. This “strength” aka LABOUR is fine only if it’s approved by black men.
Black women are only “valued” and respected when this said strength is to protect and defend black men. When it’s strength used to be at the frontline of protests for BLM or when it’s strength to endure all the bullshit presented in a relationship.
Black girls (especially darkskinned black girls) are viewed as adults and are “masculinized” from childhood. They are not viewed as soft, delicate and fragile like their white/non-black counterparts and this has negative effects on their treatment in society.
