@arttavana Love her. She’s just announced two albums, I can’t wait. She’s one of the only current big artists that I think has remained interesting, and in her true artistry.
@arttavana Agreed. It was fun and had smart moments, but I didn’t find it timeless or something I’d return to years from now. Like most things now unfortunately.
“I love actresses. I love to look at them. I love to identify with them. I choose a lot of what I watch based on who I’m going to look at for two hours.”
- Julianne Moore
There is a quiet truth here: the work we do within ourselves is never just personal.
As we come to understand our own minds, we begin to see the world more clearly.
As we allow our own healing, we naturally extend that healing to others. And as we hold peace within us, we become a source of peace in the world.
The change is from the inside out, more than it is from the outside in.
Too many people lump all of filmmaking and all filmmakers under one grand umbrella of "Hollywood." This is like lumping every book that's every been published under the umbrella of "The Publishing World," and assuming after you've read a couple of bad books that all other books should be swept into the same bin.
There are great filmmakers, and there are those who phone it in. Those who really know what they're doing, and those who can't do the job. Those who care, and those who don't. We are not all under the same umbrella. Not at all.
Think about whatever you do for a living. You probably take a lot of pride in it. You would disagree with being lumped together with those doing their jobs carelessly in your business. It's the same thing.
"Hollywood" is half a million people, most of whom have sacrificed a steady income and career stability to make art for you. Seek out the good films, abandon the rest. We do it all for you.
If I agree on something with you, it doesn't mean I'm on your "side" and if I disagree with you on something, it doesn't mean that I'm against you.
But online, people confuse thinking with tribalism.
I keep hearing from 90s artists I admire that are now independent, who say that you have to just keep going and that you will find your community. It might not be fully known, but you will find your people. We can create a new culture—I already see it happening.
Sometimes I listen to old 90s music that felt timeless, and 90s movies that stand the test of time—and I think “wow, what a time. I wish we could go back.” I think there are many truths to these thoughts...
But I think a huge thing we can also realize is how much we need to carve out our own spaces. The power world isn’t going to wait for us, and even if we can’t do it exactly how we want because of finances or power structures—we can try our best.
