Matthews’ 13.25M will be 15.15% of the cap at the time of rollover. It’ll take him to age 30.
McDavid’s deal was 16.7% of the cap, and will take him to 29.
Other %:
Ovi: 19%
Iginla: 17.9%
Crosby: 17.3%
Malkin & Datsyuk: 15.3%
Kane & Teows: 15.2%
So… pretty reasonable
Highest cap hits in the NHL for the 2024-25 season:
1. Matthews $13.25M (Highest cap hit in league history)
2. MacKinnon $12.6M
3. McDavid $12.5M
4. Panarin $11,642,857
5. Karlsson $11.5M (not including retained)

The redeeming factor in this is it (hopefully) forces the preferable outcome that is backed by historical (+) evidence - Build a new core through the draft, only supplementing externally once the culture is set in stone.

On #Flames: as ugly as the optics seem, organizationally you prefer one of the extremes over a mushy middle for your pending UFA’s
it forces:
1) a retool in a very promising draft / surrounding environment
or
2) a mandate from the core that you push for a divisional title
with that being said, the org clearly has brand / reputational issues that is pulling the #Flames towards the bottom of the league with respect to being a “small market”, and everything that comes with that (forced overpays, poor retention, limited market ‘draws’ for players)
people in the #NHL / NA bubble (like me) don’t realize how signif. an event like the #IIHFWorlds is to European’s. Saw it firsthand living in 🇨🇭, and stuff like this exemplifies it.
will 100% translate to Latvian kids picking up a stick and falling in love with hockey

#TML: Brandon Pridham is ready for a GM job, and is the architect of the salary cap. With Dubas gone, is there a better option than promoting internally? Given the cap gymnastics Toronto has specialized in, having that skill set in-house is huge

#LeafsForever facing a similar decision as #Flames.
#CGY: Mitch Love is ready for an #NHL promotion. Can you justify hiring externally and have a competitor poach someone you’ve invested tons of time/$ in?

#TOR is the NHL’s most ruthless market. Incredible to last 9 years, especially as your first GM gig.
Hard to knock a guy who managed the 5th best team in the NHL (in pts) during his tenure, including 7 consecutive playoff berths. When Dubas is ready he’ll be hired immediately
We’re extremely proud to announce a new partnership with @EWScrippsCO that will air all locally broadcast Golden Knights games FOR FREE to residents of Nevada and the team’s TV territory starting in 2023-24!! 📺 #ScrippsSports#VegasBorn#UKnightTheRealm

Your annual reminder that #GoBolts Andrei Vasilevskiy puts up incredible numbers coming off a loss…
In his last 3 playoff runs, he’s only lost back to back games twice (both last year, vs NYR and vs COL)

#NJDevils won the possession, SOG, scoring chance, high danger and xGoals share.
special teams sunk them. 0/4 PP with 8 shot attempts, 1/3 PK with 9 against (and two goals)
and Shesterkin’s decent.
