A simple label was enough. Branding an ordinary businessman as an “Awami League affiliate,” BNP activists reportedly stormed his workplace and unleashed a violent mob attack against him with apparent impunity.

His critical injuries expose a disturbing reality: the extrajudicial ban on the Awami League is being weaponised to strip ordinary citizens of their fundamental rights to safety, dignity and due process.

Under the banner of enforcing a political ban, the BNP, Jamaat and NCP-backed power structure is allowing millions of citizens to be targeted, intimidated and assaulted simply through political labelling.

A political label cannot be a licence for mob violence.
Fundamental rights cannot be suspended by an extrajudicial ban.
