Piers Morgan: Let’s talk about Elon Musk’s interview with The Economist. A lot of headlines came from it, but there was a clip about Muslims that I want to play, given that you're Muslim.

Elon Musk: I'm against people coming to a country with antithetical views.

I'm against rape and murder, and I'm against the imposition of rules and laws that are contrary to what we've come to accept in the West.

Piers Morgan: There was a lot of fallout from that. New numbers showed that the murder rate in England had dropped to its lowest in 50 years.

So this idea that Britain is being overrun, particularly by Muslims who are raping, pillaging and murdering everyone, isn't supported by the statistics.

Zanny then said it was irresponsible for someone with 240 million followers to spread things that aren't true.

Musk responded by calling her “a traitor to the West, plain and simple.”
What did you make of all this?

Mehdi Hasan: That's an understatement, Piers. It's outrageous, ridiculous and dangerous.

He knows perfectly well that when Elon Musk attacks someone, his followers can pile on. I've experienced it myself.

What's more interesting to me is the aftermath. This is the world's richest man who claims to support free speech and debate, yet whenever he gets even mildly tough questions, he melts down.

He rarely does tough interviews. Remember Don Lemon in 2024? Musk became furious over questions about his drug use and then canceled Lemon's show.

Now he's attacking The Economist, a mainstream publication, and calling its editor a traitor simply because she challenged his claims about British crime.

And on the Muslim question, Zanny deserves credit for asking it.

When someone asks Elon Musk, “Are you anti-Muslim?”, all he had to say was, “No.”
He could have said, “I'm against criminals and extremists.”

Instead, he says he's against people with “antithetical views” coming into the country, followed by, “I'm against rape and murder.”

That's an outrageously bigoted thing to say by the richest man in the world.

I'm glad she asked the question.
