I think Hon. Fiifi’s statement “Those calling for a 3rd term for Pres. Mahama are sycophants” is overly rigid. The fact that multiple presidential terms were unnecessary 30 years ago does not mean they are unnecessary today. Democracy thrives on the ability of institutions to adapt to changing realities hence the use of referendums.

One need only ask why Britain struggles to build enough housing to stimulate growth? When societies remain trapped in rules designed for a different era, they invite stagnation and decay. Rules should serve national development, not imprison it.

This helps explain why many Western systems falter under institutional inertia, while China continues to adapt. By revising its rules to allow leadership continuity under Xi Jinping, China prioritized long-term planning and has sustained rapid transformation. The lesson is not imitation, but flexibility: governance must evolve to remain effective.
