Some people say it could have been associated with floods or predators, but in that case, I’d expect us to have evolved to dislike the smell rather than enjoy it.
I’ve never met anyone who dislikes the smell of rain. It makes me wonder if our ancestors evolved to enjoy it because it signaled something beneficial, like fresh drinking water.+
Fun fact: Humans are supersensitive to the smell of rain (the substance geosmin) - the nose needs only 5 molecules per trillion.
For comparison, we detect this smell 200,000 times better than a great white shark senses blood in water.
Why does a human need such a powerful rain detector? What were our cave-dwelling ancestors so afraid of?
What kind of creature came with the rain? Is it still here?!

Sn. @memetsimsek
As a kid watching Eurovision I was so influenced by Turkish entries and their pop music’s oriental influences.
Şebnem Paker and her absolutely beautiful DINLE one of the most significant for me. This chorus. The beat!😍
“Is there an end? Quietly, I love you.”
